Cheney says US on track for deficit cut goals

Cheney says US on track for deficit cut goals

CHICAGO (Reuters) - Federal tax receipts are running higher than expected, keeping the United States on track to meet a Bush administration goal of slashing the budget deficit over several years, Vice President Dick Cheney said on Friday.

"As a result of this new revenue, we are on schedule to meet the President's goal of cutting the deficit in half by 2009," Cheney said in a speech on the economy at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, the largest U.S. futures exchange.

Federal tax revenues grew by almost 15 percent on the year in 2005 and so far in 2006 are running more than 10 percent ahead, more than projected, Cheney said, tying the trend to the Bush administration's tax cuts.

Cheney acknowledged "anxiety" in the United States over outsourcing of U.S. jobs but said that a protectionist response would invite retaliation from other countries "and cause a long-term decline in our standard of living."

3. Funny. as I recall they created the deficit....
Evil genius Clinton had us in surpluses before the Chimp took control.

But of course that was because of the 'economy,' not because of anything that Bill did. And the 'economy' caused the deficits since then, too, not the massive tax cuts that slashed gov revenues. :sarcasm:

of the projected amount or some other bullshit. One thing is for sure, it isn't what it sounds like, and it's probably due to some other unrelated factor or new method of "measurement" invented in the last few months.

for deficit reduction.

But they can't put it into action until they get to the bottom of Saddam's intent to retain the knowledge to one day resuscitate a program for the production of WMDs.

Ergo, they deserve credit for deficit reductions which haven't happened, AND ALSO credit for not trying to RUSH deficit reduction before it would be responsible or feasible. You see to fail at deficit reduction now when it's not realistic to attempt a reduction would cause more damage than to just let deficits rise. Meanwhile, they harbor the firm resolve to lower budget deficits caused by Democrat Party spending.

Not surprisingly you Liberals don't get it.

9. What nonsense
1. There was a budget surplus when these wizards seized power. How dare they boast about meeting deficit reduction goals like its a big achievement?

2. Outsourcing of jobs is likely to cause a long-term decline in our standard of living, too. Massive unemployment and underemployment tends to do that.

10. Did Cheney factor in Iraq war spending and future Medicare costs?
I bet not.

And the CBO says federal revenues will slow down in the next few quarters.
