Protest planned today for Gore book signing

<snip>

HillaryNow.com members will be protesting Al Gore from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today at the Green Hills Mall during the book signing at Davis Kidd Booksellers, also in Green Hills.

HillaryNow.com is an online group that supports the running of former first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton in the 2008 presidential election.

Ellie Stevenson of Hendersonville, a member of the group, said protesters will gather peacefully because they feel Gore is the only person who could block Clinton’s nomination in the 2008 election.

Stevenson also said many protestors are upset because of the war in Iraq.

“If (Gore) had stood his ground in 2002, America would not be in the mess we’re in now,” Stevenson said.

22. Like I've read and said many times over, those who want Hillary...
...to run for President are, for the most part, Republicans. This helps to get the Clinton-hating group of ignorants on their side out to vote for whatever clown they're planning to put out.

How can we be sure this "HillaryNow.com" people are Democrats, and/or Progressives, if ever, Clinton fans?

I think this is nothing more than "sheep in wolf's clothing" Repubs following the Rove Handbook of Win No Matter HOW.

Outside our Congressional leaders, Democrats, Progressives and Liberals aren't stupid, and protesting, and making former VP Al Gore look like an outcast in the Democratic Party after the show of discourse among Senate Democrats from yesterday, is as stupid as one can get---from a Democratic, Liberal, and Progressive's standpoint.

However, from a Repuke's standpoint, it's brilliant.

26. Senator Clinton should drop whatever she is doing and go to
the book signing as a show of friendship and respect. Al could then take the opportunity to speak glowingly of Clinton's work and positions (where he can) and reinforce the fact that they are friends. This would torpedo this blatant swift-boating and would get media attention because of the (no doubt) big coverage this attempt at smearing will have.

61. That would CERTAINLY do the trick! Question is...
...will Senator Clinton do such a brave, and courageous thing?

The problem with demonizing Democratic politicians, is that Rove is getting WAY too much (free!) help from the Democratic Party members themselves.

I'm still miffed that our party did not stand as one with Feingold/Kerry, and/or Levin/Reed yesterday. I just think, that even if they disagree, the very LEAST they could've done was vote as one voice like the Repubs are wont to do.

But then again, with Democratic colleagues on the Hill like Ben Nelson of Nebraska, Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, Dianne Feinstein of California, Joe Lieberman of Connecticut...who needs Republicans to make the Democratic Party look "wishy-washy"?

And I'm tired of hearing the excuse that "Democrats are progressives, and aren't monolithic, and have a mind of their own", when they continually vote for egregious bills that go against what the Party stands for, and what always hurt the American people presented by American-hating Repukes, like that GD Bankruptcy Reform bill written by credit card companies and other greedy financial institutions.

That excuse no longer holds any water with me.

Freepers were the first "people" I thought of too. If it acts like a plant, smells like a plant, it's a plant. Only insane wingnuts who hate the environment would protest Gore and I don't know one Democrat who fits that description. As for the calls by some for Hillary to publicly denounce this group...it would only lend credence to their operation and give them further undeserved publicity. It's best to ignore them.
We should expect all kinds of nasty crap between now and 2008. The thugs won't willingly give up power. Paid shills and deranged nutjobs will be the least of it.

80. They're not Dems
they're IDIOTS this makes absolutely no sense - if Gore had stood his ground in 2002 - no snese what so ever - now maybe it was a typo and they felt he should have stood his ground in 2000 which a lot of people think - but tell me once it goes to the Supreme Court its over no ground to stand where was he going to go other than armed revolution

as for them being against the war and supporting Hillary - this makes less sense than the Gore should have held his ground in 2002 - Hillary voted for the Iraq War Resolution and has been very wishy washy about getting out and has even in the past used the freak in chief's exact words to defend staying in Iraq - remember when Cindy Sheehan met with Hillary - she told Cindy she didn't support withdrawing the troops because to do so would dishonor the soldier who had already died - directly from the GOP talking points

These people have hurt my head THEY MAKE NO SENSE

55. This is valuable information
Too often we are left guessing suspiciously and that leads to the Democratic intramural spin-offs that trash both Gore and Hillary- which is ironically what we are accusing these boobs of doing. So whether a transcendent nutcase or a GOP plant is up to God to judge at the moment. The results are identical, damaging all Dems, but most especially IF Hillary is dumb enough to have any affiliation with this counter productive anti-Gore zealot.

Then this has to be repudiated to our fair and balanced media that lets Fred Phelps conduct his weird GI funeral persecutions without any damage to the GOP.

It's embarassing but Phelps was registered as a Dem back in the 80's. Phelp's began his funeral picketing in the 90's. One of his first funeral protests was at Al Gore Sr.'s funeral. He did it to "get back" at Al Gore Jr. because of Gore's support of gay rights.

I don't think Phelps would register as Democratic today. And the old Phelps/Gore photos were used by the Republicans and others against Gore in 2000. Every time they mentioned Phelps and Gore together they failed to mention the part about Phelps picketing at Gore Sr.'s funeral. Phelps was part of their propaganda against Gore in 2000.

edited to add link to wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_phelps#Political_affiliations about Phelps/Westboro picket Gore Sr.'s funeral.

In GD, anytime there is a thread about Gore there are always posters who have a different horse in the race who jump in to criticize and sometimes go so far as to spread right wing lies (i.e. Gore "lost" in 2000).

Gore has many very scared. I love it. So much for those who have clung to a sense of entitlement for their candidate.

If they actually listened to Al, we might get some new converts. Is anyone else thinking this is a rethug plot. None of it makes sense, but remember the rovian movers and shakers will do anything.

"Hil" baby on this? You'd think she'd be discouraging them. The DLC is TERRIFIED of Gore entering the race. Oh, and btw, the ONLY thing blocking Hillary's nomination in 2008 is THE VOTERS (you moron!)

64. This is beyond stupid - could this be a RW group
It makes no sense for Hillary supporters to protest Gore (or Kerry, Edwards, Clark, Feingold etc). It could make sense for RW people - claiming to be Hillary people - to protest a Gore book signing.
Stevenson's comment makes no sense. Gore was a private citizen and spoke against the war. Bush sent us into war. (I guess she meant 2000 - when he failed to go to a higher court to appeal the Supreme Court. What a lunatic!)

68. Damn right it's BIZZARE! These people are FOOLISH!
What utter and complete nonsense! Real "bright" move! This is exactly what is wrong with too many on the left. People on the right line up for a firing squad in a straight line and then fire. Too many on the left insist on standing in a CIRCLE before firing. C'mon you FOOLS! Train your fire on the R's where the hell it belongs. This nonsense only gives me further reason to support the likes of Edwards, Warner, Richardson, Vilsack, Clark, Biden, etc. in '08. Believe me, these folks are doing Hillary's POSSIBLE '08 campaign much more harm than good. If their foolish fire BACKFIRES, then GOOD!!

A few dumbass freepers trying to create the illusion of division within the party. Like they can't find plenty of ACTUAL division, without having to make shit up. Some people apparently don't have enough to do.

76. How unbelievably stupid
Gore didn't start this war/occupation.

What a colossal waste of energy. While the country is being dismantled piece by piece, they're protesting an undeclared presidential candidate.

Why do Democrats shoot themselves in the head while they're being robbed?

77. "Gore is the only person who could block Clinton’s nomination"?
Ellie Stevenson of Hendersonville, a member of the group, said protesters will gather peacefully because they feel Gore is the only person who could block Clinton’s nomination in the 2008 election.

Is this even for real? I can't even make sense of it.

79. This makes no sense at all. I'm sure Hillary is ticked at the attention
Gore has earned with his work and movie on global warming, but if her campaign is supporting this it shows no savvy at all. Since she spends much effort calculating and triangulating political acts and choices, I doubt she's behind this ridiculous stunt. I do believe that the GOP wants Hillary as the Dem candidate, because they know they can easily defeat her.

So yes, Hillary's doubless jealous of attention given to Gore, but I doubt she's stupid enough to organize this little stunt. I mean, a BOOK-SIGNING??? Especially a book that espouses an important global cause. These people should get a life and reassess their goals. They are seriously off-track if they want to make things better.

85. If Gore had stood his ground in 2002?
I agree with the others, I highly doubt this is an authentic group. No one who is that politically involved could say such an ignorant statement unknowingly. Gore, as a private citizen, consistently opposed the war from the beginning. Clinton, who was a senior member of the majority party of the Senate, supported, and infact still supports, the Iraq War. This Rovian use of language, projecting the sins of your candidate onto your opponent, are the trademark of the modern Republican Party.

90. If this group is not Republican...
...then they're just crazy and more than a little stupid. Al Gore? 2002? WTF? I don't think that you can blame Hillary for this one. In fact, it's kind of interesting. Let's assume for a minute that the group is sincere. Hillary generates unreasoning and somewhat crazed hatred, right? I know that's my number one reason for not wanting her as the nominee. Maybe the inverse is true, too, and she attracts groups like this. Nutcases, somewhat like over zealous fans. It's got to be difficult to navigate waters like this if you're Hillary or any politician.

94. LOL...only 2 showed up
The HillaryNow.com group planned a protest during the book signing. The online group supports the running of former first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton in the 2008 presidential election and believes a Gore candidacy could get in the way.

"We don't want to be obtrusive; we just want to be a presence," she said of the protesters.

Even though a planned 30 protesters were supposed to appear, only two showed up because of schedule conflicts, she said.
