A spokesman says the senator's personal finances are unrelated to state business
COLUMBUS - U.S. Sen. George Voinovich won't release records detailing his personal financial dealings with a broker indicted this week for allegedly bribing the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation's former chief financial officer, a spokesman for the senator said.
In light of the senator's acknowledgement of Mr. Voinovich's "personal and professional relationships" with indicted Cleveland-area brokers Daniel O'Neil and Michael Lewis, state Sen. Marc Dann called on the senator to give Ohio's inspector general records of commissions and agreements with Mr. O'Neil to handle his investment portfolio. Mr. Dann is the Democratic nominee for attorney general.
Chris Paulitz, a spokesman for Mr. Voinovich, said the senator "pays what everybody else pays" for Mr. O'Neil's services and he sees no reason to turn over any records to investigators.

Mr. O'Neil and Mr. Lewis, of Ferris, Baker Watts, are accused of bribing the bureau's former chief financial officer, Terrence Gasper, with the use of an oceanfront home and a boat slip in the Florida Keys in exchange for investment business. Firms represented by the two brokers have collected $3.2 million in commissions since 1997 from the bureau.
