(Funny how they stopped saying that they captured bin Laden's #3 again.)

US says captures senior al Qaeda militant in Iraq

Fri Jun 23, 2006 02:06 AM ET

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The U.S. military said on Friday it had captured a senior al Qaeda in Iraq member near an area where the group's leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was killed in a U.S. air strike two weeks ago.

It said three other militants were detained during U.S.-led raids on Monday southwest of Baquba, 65 km (40 miles) north of Baghdad.

The statement did not mention the name of the senior al Qaeda militant but said he was known for "facilitating" foreign fighters throughout central Iraq.

Zarqawi was killed on June 7 after a U.S. war plane dropped two 500-pound bombs on his "safe house" near Baquba. U.S.-led forces have conducted frequent raids near Baquba and the rest of Diyala province, where al Qaeda militants are highly active.

1. And there's how many thousands left to go?
Boy, at the rate we're "capturing" them our troops ought to be home by the end of the century.

No doubt, the other 999,999 radical militant P.O.S. are shaking in their boots. They'll probably stop capturing, torturing, and killing innocent Iraqis and troops any minute, now.

Not.

2. is there an org chart?
I suspect there will be a lot more of these announcements in this, hopefully honest (not holding my breath), election year.

Reuters reminding readers of the Zarqawi killing.

3. Hmmmmmm - what does one make of all of these?
Is it not curious that so many stories of capture, killing or attack by 'terrorists' are appearing right close to the mid-term election? One is forced to take them all with a big dose of skepticism!

except for Most Athletic, those two keep slipping away!

They'll have to start on the Junior al Quaeda militants next.

7. CNN's headline: U.S. military: Top al Qaeda operative captured
"A" senior member. But they won't name him. Hmmmm.

Is this all too convenient?

9. Surly this guy must have been in Miami or at a Sears store
at one time in his life...since he was known for "facilitating foreign fighters".
He must be connected some how, I bet he even knew Kevin Bacon somehow.

I think my story is just as sardonic as the military's.
