3 Iraqis on trial in Germany for plot
Ata Abdoulaziz Rashid, 32, Mazen Ali Hussein, 24, and Rafik Mohamad Yousef, 31, face charges of conspiracy and membership in Ansar al-Islam, a radical Islamic group linked to Osama bin Laden ‘s al-Qaida network.

Police say Yousef phoned the other two defendants, described as more senior members of the group, to ask for their approval for an attempt to kill Allawi during his appearance at a business forum in Berlin. They allegedly gave their approval and a promise of financial help, and Yousef allegedly inspected the scene of the attack.

If found guilty, the three could be sentenced to a maximum of 10 years in prison.

Two other Iraqis went on trial Tuesday in a Munich state court on charges they belonged to or supported the same organization.

1. Now this give me a flash to ruminate
What if the US had put all the Gitmo "detainees" on trial instead of throwing them down the dark hole of Gitmo?

The innocent ones would have been returned to their live and the guity ones thrown in prison. Period.
And we woudn't have created this worldwide shame and disdain for the US by establishing Gitmo.
Other countries such as Spain, Germany, and England have tried terror suspects and those people are now behing bars for a long time. Whay couldn't we do it?

Now that Smirky says he wants to do away with Gitmo, it seems he is becoming aware of the bad choice that Gitmo is. But how to release the prisoners now that they have apparently been tortured? All this would come out in court, heaven forbid! Would that we had tried them sooner rather than later. Sad luck, Smirk.
