Bomb in eastern Turkey wrecks cargo train-report

A bomb explosion on a railway track in eastern Turkey destroyed eight carriages of a cargo train on Sunday, state news agency Anatolian reported.

The bomb, which exploded as the train passed, flipped over 12 carriages, leaving eight unusable, and wrecked 20 metres (65 ft) of track in the eastern province of Mus, Anatolian said.

No further details were available.

Attacks against security forces, civilians and property in the mainly Kurdish east and southeast have escalated in recent months, while Istanbul has also been targeted with bomb blasts claimed by a group linked to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

3. Hell no. They are our "boys." They can do no wrong.
And we can't control them any more than we can control Israel.
The Kurds will act against our interests when they feel like it and tell us to take a hike.

5. This is interesting -
Rather than a terrorist act designed to garner media attention and make the government look weak, this act is targeting lines of communications -- more like a Second World War partisan action than recent acts of terrorism.

The infrastructure in eastern Turkey is thin. If the Kurds keep this up, the Turks will be forced to deploy thousands of soldiers along the rail lines, at bridges, etc., just to be able to supply their own presence there. Wonder if the Kurds have new, strategically-minded leadership?
