UK role in CIA flights 'criminal'
13 June 2006,

Britain is a "partner in crime" with the United States in organising secret flights to move terror suspects around the world, a human rights groups says.

Amnesty International claims that UK ministers have adopted a "see no evil, hear no evil" approach to CIA flights.

It has called on Britain and all other EU states to stop their airports from being used for the practice.

The UK government previously said it had approved two US prisoner flights and refused two others since 1998.

Amnesty has called for a public inquiry into the flights - known as "extraordinary renditions" - because it says domestic and international laws have been broken.

2. Amnesty International has a long track record, with a well
earned reputation for honesty and integrity. They have never been known for exaggeration, panic, heavy breathing or overstating the case.

Their unblemished record puts them far and away above the convenient truthiness of either the US or British government.
You can bet they have a strong evidenciary backup for their claims, although one does have to go to their site or give them a phone call to avail oneself of that info.

3. "two" flights?
I'm willing to bet the farm that this involves "dozens" of flights into and out of the UK and well across Europe.

5. Who the hell are they flying around anyway?
We already have 500+ in Gitmo and most of them have been there for years. How many other people have they disappeared and where are they going?

6. EU, US "partners" on CIA flights: Amnesty
Edited on Wed Jun-14-06 09:03 AM by cal04
Amnesty International urged European states on Wednesday to stop being "partners in crime" with the United States over the alleged kidnapping of terrorism suspects and their transfer to countries that use torture.

In a report and a letter addressed to EU leaders meeting on Thursday and Friday in Brussels, the human rights group backed accusations that the CIA ran secret transfer flights known as "renditions," and that European countries were aware of them.

"There is irrefutable evidence of European complicity in the unlawful practice of renditions," Amnesty said in the letter.

"The European Council must therefore put a resolute stop to the attitude of see no evil, hear no evil that has prevailed so far," Amnesty said, referring to the EU summit.
