President Bush arrives at Eppley

BY TIM ELFRINK

WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER

Air Force One touched down at Omaha's Eppley Airfield about 6:36 p.m. tonight, bringing President Bush to Nebraska where he plans to continue his push for comprehensive immigration reform.

Bush will spend the night before touring Catholic Charities' Juan Diego Center and delivering a speech on immigration at Metropolitan Community College's South Omaha campus Wednesday morning.

Nebraska Gov.Dave Heineman and other dignitaries were on hand to welcome the president to Omaha.

Bush arrived after a day in which he spoke about immigration reform at a law enforcement training facility at Artesia, N.M., and a Border Patrol headquarters at Laredo, Texas.

OH BOY. I can sleep tonight. News on W's speech tomorrow.

2. Immigration is a problem in Nebraska?
I thought they had to pay people to live there.

Yeah, the demographics of Nebraska have changed drastically along with every state in the nation. For the better imho. Lincoln has a very diverse, vibrant immigrant community.
Nice dig at my state though.

peace

15. NO Offense to the Wide Open State of Nebraska
It's just all those articles about the emptying of the Empty Quarter of the country, proposals for combining the two Dakotas, etc., that were the vogue not too long ago....made Nebraska seem an unlikely spot to object to immigration. But now that this report has been augmented by the inclusion of information about the big fundraiser (see below), it doesn't seem so odd that Dubya would just be following the money with whatever shtick he's pulled together for the week...

10. He's a coward (clue 1); financial markets crashing (clue 2)
For some strange reason, "big money" seems to know when something is up.

14. Bush rarely does sleep overs
no less go to anywhere the night before just to be there early in the morning.

Just like 9-11, when he arrived on the 10th and stayed the night, this sort of thing always makes my oh-oh meter go off.

16. Do you have any sources for that?
This is the first time I have heard anything about him arriving on the 10th.

17. It's common knowledge
that Bush arrived on Sept 10th. He went to Jacksonville, FL and visited a school that afternoon. Then he went down to the Colony Hotel and had dinner with his brother and other officials.

That morning he got up early to go jogging and then left the Colony at 8:30 AM. It took 1/2 hour to drive from the hotel to the school, which even in normal traffic should have only taken 5 - 10 minutes.

On the night of Sept. 10, Bush and his entourage stayed at the Colony Beach and Tennis Resort on Longboat Key, the narrow barrier island of luxury homes and condos fringing the Gulf of Mexico.

According to the official schedule, the motorcade was to leave the Colony at 8:30 the next morning for the drive to Emma E. Booker Elementary School, 20 minutes and a world away in a predominantly black area of Sarasota.

If the motorcade was on time or even a few minutes late, Bush would have been in his limousine, with its advanced communications, when the first plane hit the World Trade Center at 8:46 a.m. and CNN began almost immediate coverage. Yet Bush didn't learn of the crash until after he arrived at the school, where journalists' cell phones already were ringing with the news.

5. Is this where he hid out on 9-11 because Air Force One was a target?
Didn't he fly to a military base in Nebraska?

Cue Twilight Zone theme.

6. Oh, and a lot of CEOs (including Warren Buffet) JUST SO HAPPENED
to be at a charity event at that very same base on the very same day. http://www.cooperativeresearch.org/essay.jsp?article=essayaninterestingday

Just a coincidence.

13. That my sound strange to someone not familiar with the base.
Warren Buffett held an annual golf event that raised a lot of money for charity. Since these accusations he quit holding them, and frankly I don't blame him.

Local civilians often use the facilities at the base. In fact, I was on the base just a few days before the attacks, and I'm not military. If I had went on Tuesday instead of Friday, it would be just as easy to imply that I was involved, which is preposterous.

When under threat of attack the President doesn't get to choose where he goes.

11. We gave a welcome
As his motorcade sped by on Abbott Dr./Cuming St. NYD/UNO Democrats put together a good protest, and we got quite a bit of news coverage. 3 of the news stories covering the President's visit prominently featured our protest.
