Dean: Stop Using Marriage to Pander to Base, Deflect from Leadership..
failed leadership.

http://www.democrats.org/a/2006/06/dean_to_republi.php

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean today issued the following statement calling on President Bush and the Republicans in Washington to stop using marriage as a wedge issue to pander to extremists in their political base and distract the American people from Republicans’ failed leadership:

“Republicans in Washington clearly need a reality check. The American people are deeply concerned about the failure of Republicans to address critical issues like sky-high gas prices, millions of uninsured Americans, an intractable war in Iraq, out of control budget deficits, cuts to student loan programs, and a widespread Republican culture of corruption. Yet, instead of spending the Senate’s time on the priorities of the American people, President Bush and Bush Republicans like Senator Frist are pushing a divisive Constitutional amendment that uses marriage as a political wedge issue. This is morally wrong. It hurts LGBT Americans, and it hurts our country

“President Bush is wrong to target LGBT Americans to rally his political base and distract from the disastrous impact his failed leadership has had on the economic and health care security of American families. The American people know that this amendment won't help a single American find health insurance, create a single job, help a single student go to college, or help come up with a plan for success in Iraq. Instead of putting their political interests ahead of the nation’s interest, the time has come for the Bush Administration and the Republican Congress to get to work on the issues that really matter to Americans.”

4. Jesus, a dose of reality is nice
About time we get some reality from our Democratic leaders. Now if the Dems in the Senate would stand up and say the same thing it would work. But the puss-balls that we call our "leaders" don't have the spine to do it.

2. sigh
I sometimes wonder what it would have been like if he could have gotten the nomination and been elected.

This country would be a far different country.

3. There you go, Dean stabbing LGBT Americans in the back.
See? He doesn't care at all, he's just pandering to the American right wing and hard right religious factions...

I should add (/sarcasm) now shouldn't I?

5. I would suggest...
You casually make note of those who continue to criticize Dean for this statement.

There will be those who do.

Just a thought.

16. Thanks, mad!
This is my "comment"..

"Quit trying to change the subject from your failures as a Senate body and get to work on what America really needs. All this hatred to make a big show for the faux christians is disgusting."

9. I disagree with Dean's statement
Dean said:
the time has come for the Bush Administration and the Republican Congress to get to work on the issues that really matter to Americans

I don't want the Republican congress to get to work, because their "solutions" have brought us to this sorry state of affairs. I want the Republicans OUT of congress so some posotive work can get done.

14. Damn, dude!
As a baptized and confirmed hard ass myself even *I* think you're over the top on this. The guy signed the first gay union bill in the nation for goddess sake. Is he wrong on gay marriage? Yep. But letting ONE appearance on ONE show out of how many hundreds? thousands? PERMANENTLY color your opinion of EVERYTHING he has done and is trying to do? Dude, you're lookin' for the Messiah and I haven't seen him around in awhile.

like Dean is distancing himself or his Org from GLBT!
