Rumsfeld says no compensation for Vietnamese who suffer from Agent Orange
Published on Monday, June 5, 2006 by the Agence France Presse
US Won't Compensate Vietnam's Agent Orange Victims: Official

The United States won't compensate Vietnam's Agent Orange victims but will offer advice on dealing with the wartime defoliant, a US official said during a visit by Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

When Rumsfeld met Defence Minister Pham Van Tra and military officials, the Vietnamese side had raised the issue of dioxin exposure and contamination from Agent Orange, the senior official said on the sidelines of the visit.

"What we can do is make scientific information available, historical archival information we might have, ... technical advice on how to deal with the situation," the official said.

4. And no American will be reimbursed for damages incurred by
the intake of aspartame.... live in our world, or die in theirs.

Dr. Roberts does an excellent job of summarizing the neurological and physiological effects of chronic aspartame consumption using observations from his years of medical practice as an internist as well as information obtained from other physicians and from a detailed questionnaire he sent out to a large population group. Aspartame is an artificial sweetener that is widely used in 'diet' soda pop as well as chewing gum, instant iced tea, jello mixes, and other food products. The weakest part of the book is probably where it attempts to identify possible mechanisms for the neurological effects of Aspartame since research is still in the early stages on WHY Aspartame has some of the negative neurological effects that are observed. Understandably, though, Dr. Roberts, feels compelled to attempt to address that question and points to several possibilities including the toxicity of aspartame metabolites such as methanol, the increased neurotoxicity of optical stereoisomers produced during storage at elevated temperatures, phenylalanine vulnerability of the 1 in 50 people who are recessive carriers of the gene for PKU disease, artificial imbalanced consumption of amino acids, interaction with neurotransmitter levels in the body, etc. Some of these are the objects of current research projects but knowledge on pathways and mechanisms is still in the early stage of discovery.

Dr. Roberts clinical observations of aspartame-triggered illness are excellent and speak to his experience and skill as a physician. This book is required reading for anyone who is interested in the physical manifestations of aspartame-caused illness.

Nor will the people of India be reimbursed for the damages incurred by breathing stuff leaking from an American chemical plant there..

1984: Hundreds die in Bhopal chemical accident
Hundreds of people have died from the effects of toxic gases which leaked from a chemical factory near the central Indian city of Bhopal.

The accident happened in the early hours of this morning at the American-owned Union Carbide Pesticide Plant three miles (4.8 km) from Bhopal.

Mr Y P Gokhale, managing director of Union Carbide in India, said that methyl isocyanate gas (MIC) had escaped when a valve in the plant's underground storage tank broke under pressure.

Mothers didn't know their children had died, children didn't know their mothers had died and men didn't know their whole families had died

Ahmed Khan, Bhopal resident

8. Lest we forget - a DU refresher:
Depleted Uranium has been used since the Gulf War and will not only damage Iraqis but our own soldiers as well. This is another major item we should be asking our media about! We go to war over WMD and them we USE them!

Depleted Uranium will prove to be a major Weapon of Mass Destruction used by our country:

Brief history in these 4 articles:

US Wins Defeat of Depleted Uranium Study

In the House of Commons in London on Monday, Labour MP Joan Ruddock said a test of the UK Government's pledge to keep civilian casualties to a minimum in an attack on Iraq would include not using depleted uranium weapons.

Apparently anticipating complaints, the US defence department briefed journalists about DU - making it plain it would continue to be used.

Broadcast Exclusive: U.S. Soldiers Contaminated With Depleted Uranium Speak Out

A special investigation by Democracy Now! co-host Juan Gonzalez of the New York Daily News has found four of nine soldiers of the 442nd Military Police Company of the New York Army National Guard returning from Iraq tested positive for depleted uranium contamination. They are the first confirmed cases of inhaled depleted uranium exposure from the current Iraq conflict.
After repeatedly being denied testing for depleted uranium from Army doctors, the soldiers contacted The News who paid to have them tested as part of their investigation.

U.S. use of depleted uranium under fire
Alvin Clark, of Tacoma, developed aplastic anemia he believes is related to his exposure to depleted uranium dust after he was hit by friendly fire in Saudi Arabia.

Shells and armor used by U.S. tanks, gunships and helicopters are often made of depleted uranium because depleted uranium, or D.U., is a heavy metal, able to pierce armored vehicles or resist being pierced. But it’s also radioactive, a waste product of nuclear enrichment plants like Hanford.

A pentagon training film shows how the D.U. ordnance bursts into a fiery powder on contact.

So, what happens when U.S. Troops are forced to march through the D.U. dust that’s left on the ground? Or get hit by friendly fire? Some vets say it made them sick. The Pentagon disputes that.
(PJ aside: No...Really?!? )
