U.S. accused in more Iraq civilian deaths
A third set of allegations that U.S. troops have deliberately killed civilians is fueling a furor in Iraq and drawing strong condemnations from government and human rights official. "It looks like the killing of Iraqi civilians is becoming a daily phenomenon," the chairman of the Iraqi Human Rights Association, Muayed al-Anbaki, said Friday after video ran on television of children and adults slain in a raid in Ishaqi in March.

Al-Anbaki's comments came a day after Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki upbraided the U.S. military over allegations that Marines killed two dozen unarmed civilians in Haditha, calling it "a horrible crime." They were his strongest public comments on the subject since his government was sworn in last month.

U.S. commanders have ordered new ethics training for all troops in Iraq. But the flow of revelations and investigations threatens to undermine Iraq's new government and public support in America for President Bush's management of the war. Iraq's government also began its own investigation of the deaths in Haditha.

In addition to the Haditha case, in which Marines are alleged to have gunned down 24 civilians in a rage of revenge for a bombing that killed a Marine in November, seven Marines and a Navy corpsman could face murder, kidnapping and conspiracy charges as early as Friday in the April shooting death of an Iraqi man, a defense attorney said Thursday.

1. They want to kill us, we want to kill them
and, on the side, we will work together with them to build a free and democratic society.

High degree of difficulty there.

2. somehow I cannot image a six month old baby as wanting to kill us
or a pregnant woman in labor, killed while giving birth. Somehow the picture of a six month old baby being shot in the head by our troops just simply cannot get past my moral approval meter.

George "Bring em on" Bush, the AWOL cowardly little man with a child's brain and a child's sexual appendage, --this prick, is directly responsible for this barbaric, murderous attitude and it's murderous results---human beings shot in the head simply because they were born where they were born. Jesus.

What have we become? Five children shot in the head---and we are to believe that these troops are fighting for our "freedoms". It is a fake war that Bush invented so he could take over this country in a coup by repeadtedly insisting we are at "war" with someone, or something, or some obscure notion such as "terror"

I understand your ironic comment but I cannot stomach this much longer. What are our Marines doing? They are barbarians at the gates?

3. Our guys were sold a bill of goods; "greeted as liberators"
Edited on Fri Jun-02-06 11:40 AM by BeyondGeography
The goodwill was never there, because we lied about our intentions, lied about the reasons for the war, bombed the crap out of them, rolled over their towns and cities, shot first and asked questions second. "They hate us and they want to kill us," said a soldier in a recent NYT article. Such a simple statement. Haditha is a nightmare, but a predictable one at that. Now, with Maliki criticizing us openly, it will only get worse. We have a surplus of anger in this country, and a lot of it is wearing the uniform in Iraq right now.

I am similarly sickened. The irony helps me put things in their starkest and mostclear perspective. No offense intended, Malva.

6. Wow, that was weird
I just read that subject heading, clicked on the message, and "presto!" It's deleted. Not relevant to anything, just interesting timing. Leaves me curious, but I'll live.

7. What is becoming
undeniable is that we are at war with the Iraqi people, you know the ones we were "liberating". Of course this will be denied at least until the new PM tells us to get out.
What is the difference between an insurgent and a patriot?

Accusations against U.S. enrage Iraqis

BAGHDAD, Iraq - A third set of allegations that U.S. troops have deliberately killed civilians is fueling a furor in Iraq and drawing strong condemnations from government and human rights officials.

"It looks like the killing of Iraqi civilians is becoming a daily phenomenon," the chairman of the Iraqi Human Rights Association, Muayed al-Anbaki, said Friday after video ran on television of children and adults slain in a raid in March on the Iraqi village of Ishaqi north of Baghdad.

Al-Anbaki's comments came a day after Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki upbraided the U.S. military over allegations that Marines killed two dozen unarmed civilians in the western city of Haditha, calling it "a horrible crime." They were his strongest public comments on the subject since his government was sworn in last month.

U.S. commanders have ordered new ethics training for all troops in Iraq. But the flow of revelations and investigations threatens to undermine Iraq's new government and public support in America for President Bush's management of the war.

Iraq's government also began its own investigation of the deaths in Haditha.

In addition to the Haditha case, in which Marines are alleged to have gunned down 24 civilians in a rage of revenge for a bombing that killed a Marine in November, seven Marines and a Navy corpsman could face murder, kidnapping and conspiracy charges as early as Friday in the April shooting death of an Iraqi man in yet another incident, a defense attorney said Thursday.
