Bodies of 2 Marines Recovered in Iraq

Tuesday May 30, 2006 5:16 PM

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - The bodies of two U.S. Marines missing after a helicopter
crashed in western Iraq over the weekend have been recovered, the military
said Tuesday.

The U.S. Marine Corps AH-1 Cobra helicopter from 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing was
on a maintenance test flight when it went down Saturday in the volatile western
region of Anbar. The military said hostile fire was not suspected as the cause,
but the crash was under investigation.

The body of one Marine was found late Monday and the other was recovered Tuesday.

1. rest in peace soldiers

.....``Our thoughts are with the families of the Marines,'' Marine spokesman Lt. Col. Bryan Salas said in a statement.

The military did not specify where exactly the helicopter crashed in Anbar, a vast insurgent-infested province that extends from the western outskirts of Baghdad to the Syrian and Jordanian borders.

3. Of course it WAS NOT shot down..
So my LOCAL newsreader assures me. Yeah, who would think that could happen in a VOLATILE region? The lies are pouring out at light speed here lately. Hard to keep up.

5. Training accidents do happen. And the bird was on a maintenance test .
It's likely that something wasn't right and the helicopter did go down because of mechanical failure. These aren't very new birds, they've been in service day in and day out, with supply shortages, cutbacks, sand, wind, etc, it's very likely that a helicopter goes down because of a mix of those reasons.

4. It won't be reported shot down for a few weeks, after it's all but
forgotten.
