Hayden Senate Confirmation Appears Assured

Hayden Senate Confirmation Appears Assured

By KATHERINE SHRADER, Associated Press Writer 2 hours, 48 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - After more than six hours of sometimes-tense Senate questioning, the confirmation of Michael Hayden to head the
CIA still appeared assured.

The four-star Air Force general tried to look forward throughout the long day of grilling, even as senators repeatedly returned to controversies over the eavesdropping work he directed as National Security Agency head from 1999 to 2005.

The CIA needs to look ahead, he said.

"It's time to move past what seems to me to be an endless picking apart of the archaeology of every past intelligence success or failure," Hayden told the Senate Intelligence Committee at his confirmation hearing Thursday. "The CIA needs to get out of the news — as source or subject — and focus on protecting the American people."......

1. ...Republicans gushed over the nominee.......

....Republicans gushed over the nominee. "You're going to be one of America's best CIA directors, general," Sen. Chuck Hagel (news, bio, voting record), R-Neb., told Hayden.

12. Yes, to me - If the Democratic Senators do not stand up ...
and do whatever is legal to BLOCK Hayden's confirmation - including filibuster - all hope is lost for November. Idiots! Don't they realize that if Hayden is confirmed, "the fix is in?"

Yes, if the Democratic Senators do not fight this, IMO All is Lost until our DUMB-ASS kool-aid drinking Americans wake the hell up. That may take decades of totalitarian rule. Hunker down and prepare for a long cold winter fellow Americans. :( :hi:

10. Of course! Anyone surprised?
This is why I didn't even bother listening to the damn hearings. The Democratic Senators didn't want to mess up their pink tutus.

6. We already knew that before the hearings began.
It is the same old song and dance every time. The Dems put up a little fuss and the repukes get whatever they want.

9. It appears that the Senate would confirm Hitler
They are enjoying the benefits of a great salary, health care, perks. They don't care about the American citizens. It is truly the Me Generation that is running this Senate.

16. I heard some of the questioning while driving
The guy was well prepared -- seemed to know the questions (due to NSA spying probably).

He says the spying is/was legal -- and why should we believe him?

Anyone that bushie appoints is going to be a lying sack of shit and bat shit crazy.

18. Given the trend in the past, I knew this would happen...
Edited on Fri May-19-06 11:16 AM by BlueStater
...but that doesn't make it suck any less.

Just another reason all these pathetic senators deserve to be thrown out on their asses in November. The current group of Republican senators are the most partisan bunch of hacks I've ever seen. They would confirm Attila the Hun if Bush nominated him. It's obvious they're more loyal to Bush and their party than they are the country. They're not doing the job the American people elected them to so they should no longer have a job.

And the Democrats have also been a disapointment. They're not doing enough to prevent thugs like Hayden from being confirmed. I understand they lack the numbers but they at least need to give the American people an impression of guts by doing everything they can to stop this guy's confirmation. If they're not willing to stand up for the Constitution then they're also not doing the job the American people elected them to.

I feel so ill right about now. Something must be done and soon otherwise we as a democracy are in big trouble.

20. Rummy's government
This is depressing and alarming. A government we already suspect of being massively corrupt is now going to have all its intelligence services headed by allies of Rummy, who may be the most dangerous man alive.

Yep, nothing to see here folks.

No need to rehash the past. Let sleeping criminals lie, and get away with it.

Just close your eyes and you won't even know that Big Brother is watching you.
