GOP congressional candidate criticizes Bush administration
GOP congressional candidate criticizes Bush administration

Tuesday, May 16, 2006
(05-16) 00:25 PDT Tracy, Calif. (AP) --

Republican congressional candidate Pete McCloskey said the Bush administration "may go down as the worst in history."

McCloskey, a moderate who served in the U.S. House from 1967-82, is running in next month's Republican primary against Rep. Richard Pombo, the chairman of the House Resources Committee.

Speaking at a candidates forum Monday night sponsored by the Tracy Press, McCloskey was booed by the Republican crowd of about 250 people when he spoke out against the Republican president.

McCloskey specifically was critical of recent revelations that the National Security Agency has been collecting records of calls made in the U.S. by ordinary Americans as part of its anti-terrorism efforts.

1. Probably not the brightest move in a primary election
though it could be that he doesn't expect to win....

If the party (finally) pulls out the big guns and gives them the backing one of the Dem challengers will beat that POS this fall.

Not during a primary.

Nice to see get beat on alongside Pombo, though.

2. He is part of the loyal opposition
as opposed to the treasonous opposition.

3. K&R for a familiar face who will hopefully beat the sh!t out of Pombo.
Remember when repubs where half-way sane?

Here's more:

Mr. McCloskey was elected to the House of Representatives in a special election in 1967 and was re-elected seven times representing the San Francisco Peninsula area. He initiated the effort to repeal the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution in 1969, and made the first House speech suggesting the impeachment of Richard Nixon for obstruction of justice in June, 1973. He played a leading role in enacting the Capital Gains Tax Reduction Act in 1977 and in abolishing the Renegotiation Board in 1978, the first government agency abolished in 22 years. He served six years as Congressional Delegate to the International Whaling Conference, and as Congressional Advisor to the Law of the Sea Treaty Delegation. He was the Republican Co-Chairman of the first Earth Day in 1970, and ran for the Presidency in 1972, challenging President Nixon's Viet Nam War policy, and receiving one delegate to the Republican National Convention.

8. Can you believe it?
Nowadays he'd be slammed for being a "liberal extremist".

Most of today's Dems don't have that good a record.

4. See GOP candidate frantic about the fact that
Repukes are really in trouble (and is there really such a thing as a "moderate" Repuke? Oh, it's an election year . . . time to change "massive suck-up voting record" to "somewhat high suck-up voting record") . . .
