Larry Di Rita, a close adviser to Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, is leaving the Pentagon to take a senior communications post with Bank of America Corp. in Charlotte.
Di Rita will be communications executive for BofA's global corporate and investment bank, starting this month.
A former Navy officer and analyst at the Heritage Foundation, Di Rita was among Rumsfield's first hires in February 2001. His duties have included special projects, media relations and frequent squash matches with Rumsfield, according to the Washington Times.
Among his key jobs has been defending Rumsfield's handling of the U.S. military action in Iraq, particularly after several retired generals last month called for the defense secretary's resignation.
. . .
He's the second high-profile federal employee to join BofA this month. Chris Swecker, the third-highest-ranking executive at the Federal Bureau of Investigation, is joining the bank in July as head of corporate security.
