Iran: Ayatollahs Invite Castro To Become A Muslim
Iran's religious authorities in the holy Shiite city of Qom have officially invited Cuba's revolutionary leader Fidel Castro, to convert to Islam, according to Hojatolislam Mohammad Reza Hakimi, quoted by Iran's Farda news agency.

"I met Castro together with the Iranian foreign minister, Saiid Salili, and gave him some sacred Islamic texts translated into Spanish," said Hakimi, who recently returned from a government visit to Cuba.

"We spoke with Castro for several hours, and I think I almost managed to convince him to become a Muslim," Hakimi added. "Castro certain that Cuba is suffering from a lack of spirituality, and seems very interested in Islam, above all in the writing of Iran's revolutionary leader, Ayatallah Khomeini," Hakimi continued.

...could you imagine what would happen if Castro "converted?"*

Just think -- for years, we were afraid of Cuba because they were a Communist state allied with the Soviet Union, right on our doorstep. If this happened, we'd suddenly have a Islamic theocracy allied with Iran right on our doorstep. Missle Crisis II, anyone?

:eyes:

*(which, I guess, would make him a convertible Castro...sorry! )

22. That's not at all like the Cuba I've seen.
Edited on Wed May-10-06 06:13 PM by Billy Burnett
President Castro always insists that the accomplishments of Cuba are those of the Cuban people, not himself. He repeatedly insists that all of the Cuban people are the ones to be proud of their sovereignty, their health care system, their education system, and their exports of medicines, medical doctors and teachers.

He takes no credit. I've heard him speak several times - in person.

There are NO statues or billboards of Castro anywhere in Cuba.

Your "fidel is the state and the state is fidel" comment is completely false. Just as false as your "democracy need not apply" comment. Cuba has elected local, provincial, and national parliaments.

Americans aren't aware of this mainly because they are forbidden from traveling to Cuba by the US government.

pretty close to the wahhabi muslims in Saudi (of course that might have something to do with bilion dollar business deals rather than religion...)

14. Socialism may have had success in the ME
were the Soviets not so bent upon the prohibition on religion. I never have understood why they insisted upon that. Socialism and religion can be compatible.

18. Not necessarily. I have known a number of Christians and Jews who
embrace communist theory. Much of liberation theology worked toward blending the two. The early Christians "held all things in common".
