Despite Opposition, Bush Backs Hayden as CIA Chief
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/050906J.shtml

By Greg Miller
The Los Angeles Times

Tuesday 09 May 2006

The Air Force general is praised for insight, but as NSA chief he was tied to intelligence troubles.

Washington - Ignoring opposition from Congress, President Bush nominated Gen. Michael V. Hayden on Monday to be the next CIA director, setting the stage for a confirmation struggle that is certain to focus on Hayden's military background and his role in a controversial domestic eavesdropping operation.

The Bush administration also moved swiftly to reassure beleaguered CIA employees by pledging that the agency would not be dismantled under Hayden, and offering the No. 2 position to a respected former spy who had resigned over clashes with outgoing director Porter J. Goss.

Isn't this the SAME George Bush who said "We don't torture?" or..."By the way, when we talk about wiretaps, they require a search warrant. Nothing has changed"
That is what he SAID. Now everyone, what did he DO?

If I were a CIA employee, I'd be fearing the loss of my job to OSP.

1. I wonder if he's doing another bait and switch

like he did with Harriet Myers?

Put out the unacceptable candidate so that the Repugs can look tough when they stand up to the pResident. Then replace that person with the one you really wanted to put in like they did with Alito.

6. That was my first reaction, too.....however, whether he knows it
or not, George can't afford another confirmation battle. On the other hand, he's stubborn enough and egotistical enough he may have decided he's still the decider and it's "in your face" time, like it or not.

I think that the reason why George's decisions are difficult to analyze is because Rover, Cheney, et al., are involved, so you can't judge the decision as something he came up with all by himself. BUT, there is also the possibility that he's not taking Rove and Cheney into his confidence too much these days, so who knows?

I truly believe he's wounded...physically and mentally. He has aged a great deal in the last 2 months alone.

7. In your face
is the only way George & Co know how to act.

Even when it's not longer in their best interest to act like assholes, they can't help themselves.

Oh well, maybe they'll pull a Moussaui and see the light when they're all found guilty of their numerous crimes against humanity.

10. Does it really matter?
It doesn't really matter much WHO he puts in there. The entire organization is corrupt. It matters not who is leading up the department. They will continue to violate the rights of citizens and uphold decisions of a government gone insane.

8. Didn't Bush only a few years ago try to dismantle the CIA and
outsource it to a Carlyle Subsidary just like Blair did with Quinteq. Yes he did.

The mere fact that Bush SAYS he's not going to dismantle the CIA, when nobody asked, means he's going to do it. He can do it from the inside with hayden.
