U.S. troop casualties continue to mount in Iraq (#2415)
http://story.malaysiasun.com/p.x/ct/9/cid/b8de8e630faf3631/id/a7c43d908ef3df4f/

A number of U.S. troops have been killed in Iraq this week. Five soldiers and three Marines have been killed since Monday.

The U.S. military in Iraq says the latest fatalities took place Friday. A roadside bomb killed three American soldiers.

The military says the blast occurred in Babil province, south of the capital, Baghdad.

Meanwhile Cpl. Stephen R. Bixler, 20, of Suffield, Conn., was killed Thursday while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Al Anbar province. He was assigned to the 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Look at this baby....

5. So Dubya can add another death
to his scorecard. What a tragedy it is for this young man's family. The men who wanted this war, and lied to get it, care nothing at all for the ones who die, or are injured. They are raking in enormous amounts of our money, and the human pain and suffering is done by others, not by them or their kids. They are evil, and destructive, and lost what souls they may have had long ago.

6. Since the beginning of April
Iraq has been a much more dangerous place to be, it seems to me that the killing has accelerated wildly, especially in the last week.
Fuck you georgie* you belong in the hague.

7. HOW MANY MORE GEORGIE, HOW MANY MORE?

Rich Man's War Lyrics

Jimmy joined the army ‘cause he had no place to go
There ain’t nobody hirin’
‘round here since all the jobs went
down to Mexico
Reckoned that he’d learn himself a trade maybe see the world
Move to the city someday and marry a black haired girl
Somebody somewhere had another plan
Now he’s got a rifle in his hand
Rollin’ into Baghdad wonderin’ how he got this far
Just another poor boy off to fight a rich man’s war

Bobby had an eagle and a flag tattooed on his arm
Red white and blue to the bone when he landed in Kandahar
Left behind a pretty young wife and a baby girl
A stack of overdue bills and went off to save the world
Been a year now and he’s still there
Chasin’ ghosts in the thin dry air
Meanwhile back at home the finance company took his car
Just another poor boy off to fight a rich man’s war

When will we ever learn
When will we ever see
We stand up and take our turn
And keep tellin’ ourselves we’re free

Ali was the second son of a second son
Grew up in Gaza throwing bottles and rocks when the tanks would come
Ain’t nothin’ else to do around here just a game children play
Somethin’ ‘bout livin’ in fear all your life makes you hard that way

He answered when he got the call
Wrapped himself in death and praised Allah
A fat man in a new Mercedes drove him to the door
Just another poor boy off to fight a rich man’s war

9. My Thoughts As Well
I wish this kid could have been a frat boy. He may have been only around 18 on the first tour. Tragic. On one hand I hate it that privileged (relatively) avoid service but I'm doing my damned-est to make sure my kids don't go. I wish no one's kids were there.

14. To carry home my little soldier

B.f.p.o.
Army dreamers.
Mammy’s hero.
B.f.p.o.
Mammy’s hero.

Our little army boy
Is coming home from b.f.p.o.
I’ve a bunch of purple flowers
To decorate a mammy’s hero.

Mourning in the aerodrome,
The weather warmer, he is colder.
Four men in uniform
To carry home my little soldier.

What could he do?
Should have been a rock star.
But he didn’t have the money for a guitar.
What could he do?
Should have been a politician.
But he never had a proper education.
What could he do?
Should have been a father.
But he never even made it to his twenties.
What a waste --
Army dreamers.
Ooh, what a waste of
Army dreamers.

Tears o’er a tin box.
Oh, jesus christ, he wasn’t to know,
Like a chicken with a fox,
He couldn’t win the war with ego.

Give the kid the pick of pips,
And give him all your stripes and ribbons.
Now he’s sitting in his hole,
He might as well have buttons and bows.

Ooh, what a waste of all that
Army dreamers,
Army dreamers,
Army dreamers, oh...

(b.f.p.o.)
Did-n-did-n-did-n-dum...
Army dreamers.
Did-n-did-n-did-n-dum...
(mammy’s hero.)
(b.f.p.o.)
Army dreamers.
(mammy’s hero.)
(b.f.p.o.)
No harm heroes.
(mammy’s hero.)
(b.f.p.o.)
Army dreamers.
(mammy’s hero.)
(b.f.p.o.)
No harm heroes.

everything is so surreal these days, as though reality itself is suspended in time. So much sorrow, so much anguish, so many lives fractured or destroyed...

21. Add ten more to the pile

Grass Bush

Pile the bodies high in Austerlitz and Waterloo Iraq
Shovel them under and let me work--
I am the grass; bush; I cover all.

And pile them high in Gettyburg Baghdad
And pile them high in Ypres and Vedum Mossoul and Al Fallaujah

Two years, ten years, and passengers ask the conductor:
What place is this?

I am the grass bush.
Let me work.
