BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - U.S. troops raided a suspected al-Qaida hide-out Tuesday, killing 10
insurgents - three of them wearing suicide vests - as American forces stepped up the hunt
for the group's leader, terror mastermind Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.
<snip>
Meanwhile Tuesday, American troops searched for "an al-Qaida terrorist leader" in the pre-dawn
raid at a safehouse about 25 miles southwest of the U.S. air base in Balad, north of Baghdad,
the military said.

The raid unfolded when troops surprised a guard and shot him before he could fire his pistol,
the military said. As the insurgent fell, he detonated a suicide vest. Two more insurgents were
killed inside the hide-out and the others outside as they tried to escape. Two of the dead were
also found wearing explosive vests. One insurgent was wounded.

The statement did not say whether al-Zarqawi was the target of the raid or whether anyone
escaped.

1. IMHO this is a BS story
the "three of them wearing suicide vests" just does not ring true to me.

5. It's more fake news to stop the plummeting support for the war
I have no doubt the military killed some people today, but there is no al-Qaeda in Iraq.

Al-Qaeda does not exist. Yes, a bunch of guys who never met bin Laden and never been to a terrorist training camp in Afghanistan during the 1990s might call themselves "al-Qaeda in Iraq". And the military is more than happy to perpetuate the "al-Qaeda" name to make Americans think we're fighting the 9/11 planners in Iraq. I have no doubt those Americans supporting this idiocy also can't find Iraq on a map.

3. Suicide Vests: The New Black
But for every few terrorists killed wearing the vests, there's more suicide vest wearers that don't get nailed before they detonate.

11. If she was told that they found nuclear WMDs in tomato cans....
...she would report it with the same degree of breathless urgency.

Starr is not a real journalist...she's a Pentagon Propagandist.

15. And the cycle begins again...
It goes a little something like this -

- renewed offensive against insurgents
- * speech on Iraq/Terror
- captured al-Qaeda #3
- bin Laden tape
- Saddam court appearance
- "surprise" visit to Baghdad

Lather, rinse and repeat.

16. And, of course, besides all that, "we don't do body counts".
Not only does this little gem of infotainment reek of pure bullshit, it also trundles along with the same old crappy form of Orwellian hoopla about how we're steadily winning against the spooky hoards of ethnic inferiors.

Yaay for the good guys!

17. I'm so disgusted with these sick Vietnam-esque BODY COUNTS!
Does Colonel Kilgore then swoop in on cue to count the bodies with his good ole' trusty deck of *death cards.* Sick and heartless bastards! As if killing X number of people is going to help us win the war of Iraqi hearts and minds. :puke:
