LAT/AP: Katrina Report Rips the Bush Admin. Again
Katrina Report Rips the Bush Admin. Again
By LARA JAKES JORDAN, Associated Press Writer
April 27, 2006

WASHINGTON -- A Senate inquiry into the government's Hurricane Katrina failures ripped the Bush administration anew Thursday and urged the scrapping of the nation's disaster response agency. But with a new hurricane season just weeks away, senators conceded that few if any of their proposals could become reality in time.

The bipartisan investigation into one of the worst natural disasters in the nation's history singled out President Bush and the White House as appearing indifferent to the devastation until two days after the storm hit.

It said the Homeland Security Department either misunderstood federal disaster plans or refused to follow them. And it said New Orleans for years had neglected to prepare for large-scale emergencies.

"The suffering that continued in the days and weeks after the storm passed did not happen in a vacuum; instead, it continued longer that it should have because of -- and was in some cases exacerbated by -- the failure of government at all levels to plan, prepare for and respond aggressively to the storm," concluded the report.

It was titled "Hurricane Katrina: A Nation Still Unprepared," sober words for the future....

1. So how much money did they spend to come to this conclusion?
We could have told them that...

2. "The suffering that continued..." It's ongoing!
I don't understand the point of this whole charade today, other than to point out how ill-equipped this admin was and is to deal with any major disaster, natural or otherwise.

4. Gotta love the headline, but Yahoo! nixed "Again"
The Yahoo! AP RSS feed included the ever so sarcastic "Again" but they wimped out and shortened the web version headline to "Katrina Report Rips the Bush Admin." Maybe Tony Snow is a shareholder.

6. Alt. AP Headline Same Article: Katrina Report Rips the White House Anew
Edited on Fri Apr-28-06 05:46 AM by mcscajun
That actual headline was seen this morning, and not just on Yahoo, so it was the AP that changed it. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060428/ap_on_go_co/katrina_congress_33

Somebody thought "Anew" was better than "Again"?

Anyway...first thing I thought was that there was a typo, plus they left out a word. Here's My Headline:

Katrina Report Rips the White House A New One

Oh, and this line is semi-precious: Earlier, White House homeland security adviser Frances Fragos Townsend, said, "Now is not the time to look at moving organizational boxes around."

Is that the new "Now is not the time for pointing fingers." ?

7. Don't blame the administration
They don't have a crystal ball to see the future with so don't criticize before the event. During the event, don't criticize because it is the time for action, not evaluation and criticism. Don't criticize after the event because it is time to move on and get over the past. I think that is how it goes and I think that is what they are trying to do now.

9. More people died there than in 911, yet somehow, it's still 911
3 years later that's stuck like a broken record in W&his media.
