Elizabeth Dole Facing Big Challenges As GOP Committee Leader
Elizabeth Dole Facing Big Challenges As GOP Committee Leader

POSTED: 7:34 am EDT April 24, 2006

RALEIGH, N.C. -- It's a tough time to be chairwoman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

A lobbying scandal looms over Washington, D.C. An unpopular war marches on in Iraq. Low approval ratings plague the Republican-controlled Congress and White House.

North Carolina Republican Senator Elizabeth Dole was elected to the chairwoman post in 2004 by convincing G.O.P. colleagues she could keep Republicans in control of the Senate. Her job is to recruit candidates and raise millions of dollars for the 33 races across the country this year.

But Dole has failed to persuade top G.O.P. choices to run in key states and has watched Democrats raise more money than her committee.

1. And she tries soooo hard to be better than Hillary!
I thought it was really funny when she first ran for the Senate. It was conspicuous she did it just because Hillary had won in NY. Unfortunately, her abilities don't even come close to equaling Hillary's, and I'm sure it pi**es old Liz off big time!

3. unfortunately
she is my Senator...and what an embarassment to the great state of North Carolina. Is there a more useless member of the Senate than her currently in office?

4. Don't mean to be snarky but what exactly should NC be proud of?
I mean in their appointed or elected governments? NC seems extremely right wing to me and I can find nothing in the right wing agenda to be proud of.

9. Please try to remember
that not all North Carolinians are RW. John Edwards is a native son and there are quite a few Du'ers who hail from here. I'm not proud of Dole or Burr, but we do have Easley (at least a Dem).

If so, can you get her defeated???

2. GOP fundraising efforts re small businesses getting obscene responses
My close friend, who is registered Independent, is pres. of a small business. He got a call at his office from a pleasant-voiced woman who introduced herself as calling for the GOP Senatorial Committee. Before she could utter one more word of her fundraising spiel, he totally exploded at her (and this man has an awesome temper) telling her that, (condensed and cleaned up for primetime), she should tell each of the GOP senators to go fuck themselves, and when they finished that, they could do the same to that idiot Bush. My friend struggles to continue to pay 80 percent of the premiums for health care insurance for his employees and their families; the clients for his products are other small businesses which are failing/closing at an alarming rate. And just about every week he struggles with figuring out what kind of a delivery surcharge to add to his catalog prices because of the increasing cost of gasoline. He may be Independent, but he is happy to allow me to put up Dem candidates' signs on his very prime-viewing location.
