Rumsfeld: No U.S.-style democracy in Iraq

WASHINGTON, April 17 (UPI) -- U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said Monday that he did not believe Iraq would ever have American style democracy, but would have to find its own brand.

"I don't think there will ever be a U.S.-style democracy in Iraq," Rumsfeld said in an interview with the Dubai-based al-Arabiya satellite TV channel. "I think there will be an Iraqi democracy as there should."

Regarding the departure of U.S. troops from the country, Rumsfeld said he looks forward to the day when that will happen, but that the Iraqis must be ready to assume control of their own security.

"We now have trained and equipped something like over 250,000 Iraqi security forces and almost every week we are turning over bases to the Iraqis," Rumsfeld told al-Arabiya.

1. Damn. No 527s for Iraq or push-pull phone calls or anything.
They probably won't even have any decent phone jamming efforts going on. Those poor people. Sigh!

3. Democracy has a brand?
One would have thought that 'democracy' was pretty much the same anywhere with only degrees of efficiency and honesty being the only variations.

What is American Brand Democracy? Perhaps the one with more gorilla dust?

7. Oh, that Don! Always coming up with something.
As we all know, Rumsfailed is under intense pressure to show some "progress" in Iraq. In fact, his survival depends on it. The entire GOP mid-terms depends on it.

Rumsfailed knows he can't pull it off. So he changes the parameters. We won't have American-style democracy in Iraq. It will be.....

.....let's se.......

....hmm.........

...theocracy....

Notice, how George Bush isn't going around pushing the "Democracy in Iraq" speech any more?

12. " every week we are turning over bases to the Iraqis" ??
.
.
.

That'd be 52 a year, Rummy

And are these "bases" ones the USA stole from the Iraqis,

or the new ones the USA is building faster than hospitals and schools?

while sewage facilities destroyed by the US "smart" bombing are still not rebuilt, and people downstream from Baghdad draw their drinking water from those forced to dump their raw sewage into the Tigris?

Nice job George

a$$hole
