Sanders: Bush censure appropriate, impeachment hopeless

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt. --Rep. and U.S. Senate candidate Bernard Sanders says he would be likely to support a move to censure President Bush, but is continuing to take a dim view of calls for Bush's impeachment.

"If people are serious about changing the direction of America, there's one way to to that -- you do that in November" by electing Democratic majorities in the House and Senate, Sanders said Tuesday.

In an interview with editors and reporters at the Valley News, the independent lawmaker, who has the support of Vermont Democrats, said there was slim chance that a Republican-controlled Congress would launch the investigation that would be needed to pursue the president's impeachment.

Of a proposal by Sen. Russ Feingold, D-Wis., to censure Bush over his use of electronic eavesdropping on some Americans without getting court approval, Sanders said, "I'm inclined to support it."

1. Forget the officeholders... The people will rid the world of Bush/Cheney.
It will take massive organization, action on the streets (sustained protest). Maybe the officeholders will see the light. Maybe they will have to be pushed aside. But it must be done by the people.

Why isn't Feingold insisting on Censure for lying about Iraq?
I do think his motion to cenure on the eavesdropping is a good first step, but it might have even more appeal if it were more directly related to the war on Iraq.

2. slim chance that a GOP-controlled Congress would launch the investigation
That is by itself an excellent argument for voting agianst Republicans wherever they are found. The misdeeds of the junta clearly warrant multiple impeachments. Any Congressman not willing to seriously consider the move needs to be removed from office in order to make way for one willing to do his duty.

Sanders at least passes the test.

3. Republicans Will Have to Help Us Impeach the Warped Residents
We couldn't have gotten rid of Nixon without some Republicans who were willing to vote for impeachment.

The same would be true even with the best imaginable election results this Fall.
(There simply aren't enough Republican Senators up for re-election).

More to the point, Bush** must be impeached NOW!
It can't wait until next year.
The maniac is about to start World War III!

4. This is very smart of Sanders.
Not giving the Repugs an inch. Not giving them any reason to cry that we're just a bunch of B*sh haters.

But warning them just the same that they need to be afraid, very afraid, of a Democratic majority after the fall elections.

Sometimes what you don't say is more powerful than what you do say. Kudos to Bernie.

5. It just doesn't seem to matter
as long as the rEpublics have the voting machines. I am inclined to believe until it is addressed we will continue to lose.

I hope everyday when they talk about upcoming elections the machines will come up, but they don't.
