No glitches reported in district voting (CA-50 Congressional Primary)
SAN DIEGO – County Registrar of Voters Mikel Haas said things appear to be going well as voters cast their ballots in Tuesday's special election to pick a replacement for former Rep. Randy “Duke” Cunningham.

No glitches were reported at the 441 voting locations in the district, which stretches from Clairemont Mesa and La Jolla north to Carlsbad and Escondido, Haas said.

The polls are open until 8 p.m.

Eighteen candidates are vying for Cunninghan's seat, which opened up after the veteran Republican congressman pleaded guilty in November to taking $2.4 million in bribes from defense contractors and resigned.

If a candidate wins a majority of the votes, he or she will complete the last eight months of Cunningham's term. If no one gets a majority, each party's top vote-getter will meet in a runoff June 6.

1. So what does this mean, that the machines have been fine tuned
now...are these paperless?? I have no confidence in these machines and will be very wary of the results...

3. No. It's paper ballots with an optical scan. But the election person
there proudly showed me the new Diebold touchscreen machines just delivered. I told her I wasn't so happy about it. She didn't have a clue.
