Sen. Allen Launches Va. Re-Election Drive
Sen. Allen Launches Va. Re-Election Drive
With an Eye on the 2008 Presidential Race, Sen. Allen Launches Va. Re-Election Bid

By BOB LEWIS

MANASSAS, Va. Apr 11, 2006 (AP)— U.S. Sen. George Allen on Tuesday formally opened his Republican campaign for re-election, but he wouldn't guarantee that he would stay in the Senate the full six years, leaving open the possibility of a 2008 presidential bid.

"I'm running for re-election just that," Allen, 54, told supporters outside a microbiology research center.

He has been traveling the nation, building a foundation for a presidential race, and has made several visits to New Hampshire and other pivotal primary states.

Democrats have portrayed him as "bored George," distracted by his White House prospects and disinterested in his Senate seat.

4. Here's a link to an article written by his
sister back in 2000. The topic is his late football coach father. However, the article provides a lot of insight into what it must have been like growing up in that family. Allen tries to pass himself off as a religious rightwinger and southerner. He is neither. His family worshipped at the altar of the football stadium. Also included in the article is a picture taken in 1969 at just about the time Allen was spraypainting racist graffiti on his Calif. high school.

5. "President" George Allen...
that's a scary thought. Personally I will work like hell to see this bastard doesn't win again in Virginia, much less higher office.

8. He just hired Mary Matalin as a campaign adviser.
He's going to wage an all out war to get as many votes as possible this year.
That way, he can say, "The people have spoken, and they want me to be president."

9. He would be a nightmare...
...he is craven and will do anything to win.
The thing that worries me about him is he has that same "aw shucks" quality that seems to endear a certain percentage of the populace to him, regardless of his policies. Kind of like our current "leader". Also, Allen always has that same stupid grin plastered on his face, no matter what the subject is that he's discussing. He is beyond phony. But he has been quite popular here in Virginia as both Governor (where his agenda went NOWHERE during his entire tenure, thanks to Democrats in state government that actually stood up to him; still, he had high approval ratings upon leaving office) and Senator. I'll never forget the cringe-inducing ad he ran in support of Oliver (gag) North's failed Senate candidacy with the two of them standing side-by-side, gap-toothed grins all around, like a couple of trained apes. Hmmm, no wonder they both support Duhbya.
In 1994, Allen said of the (Virginia) Democrats: "Let's enjoy knocking their soft teeth down their whiny throats." What a guy.
