Graham Accepts 2006 George Bush Award
Graham Accepts 2006 George Bush Award
By PAM EASTON, Associated Press Writer

Monday, April 10, 2006

(04-10) 21:33 PDT College Station, Texas (AP) --

A humble Evangelist Billy Graham accepted the 2006 George Bush Award for Excellence in Public Service on Monday.

"To be honest, when you first contacted me about this award I was very reluctant to accept it," Graham said to former President George Bush. "The words 'public service' usually bring to mind someone who has been active in government or politics, or perhaps a business leader or philanthropist. But that has not been my calling."

The preacher said his calling has been to help people look beyond this world and onto the next.

1. Well, if GHWB's son gets his way...
We'll all soon have to "look beyond this world and onto the next", because we'll be living there.

2. At least the award wasn't given to Franklin Graham!
On the other hand, the article says Schwarzenegger previous won it. How big a deal can it be?

Welcome to DU, Kutjara! :hi:

10. here is the trophy PHOTO: A STEAMING PILE OF MANURE

DOUG McMURDO / PVT
Pahrump Valley Fire-Rescue Service firefighters worked fast and furious Saturday evening to extinguish a 10-foot high pile of dairy manure on Basin Avenue between Lola Lane and Blagg Street. The manure was spread over a 100 by 50 foot area. "It was a pretty big pile," Lewis said. The chief had no comment when asked if the firefighters were pooped after putting out blaze.

6. Yeah, it's sort of like...
...the Adolf Hitler Award for Achievement in Transportation.

Not something you'd want to win.

4. "...Bush selected Graham
for the award based on his message of hope to people of all faiths. He called Graham the "conscience of our nation...."

Thank goodness someone the bushies know has one. There isn't a single conscience in the entire family or the criminal administration.

7. So Bush named an award after himself and now bestows it on the worthy?
The word 'hubris' is simply not in the Bush family's dictionary.

9. From the article:
"No matter how deep one's faith, sometimes you need the guidance and comfort of a living, breathing human being," Bush said.

...which automatically discounted Cheney and Rove.
