Radio talk show host John London fired (reward to kill Penn Jillette)
http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/14311908.htm

By Brad Kava
Mercury News

Bay Area radio talk show host John London was fired over the weekend by KIFR-FM (106.9) after offering a reward on the air to have talk host Penn Jillette killed.

London said his offer was an ``obviously sarcastic'' response to a show that Jillette did attacking Mother Teresa and calling her a fraud.

... On Wednesday, London spent two hours complaining about Jillette's show calling Mother Teresa a fraud. Thursday, at the beginning of his show, he offered ``5,000 dollars to the person that kills Penn Jillette. If he suffers, I'll make it $7,000,'' according to Cruz.

... Jillette did a bit on his show claiming that Mother Teresa had set up refuges for dying people for her own ``sexual kink'' and ``sexual kicks.'' He also claimed Paris Hilton was morally superior to the sainted nun.

1. Penn Gillette also detests Mother Teresa?
I'm so pleased.

5. Yeah, his and Teller's Showtime show, "Bullshit"
Took a look at religious icons in their "Holier than Thou" episode and looked at Mother Theresa, Ghandi, and the Dali Llama. The only one that they had anything nice to say about was Ghandi, although they had plenty of bad things to say about him too.

It was pretty interesting.

12. Basically
The Lama class was a despotic monarchy little better if not worse than the Chinese government.

13. True, the Lama class was despotic

Although I hardly think they turned the whole country into a horrific gulag, as the Chinese occupation has.

The current Dalai Lama has called for democracy and explicitly stated that the despotism must end.

Did they have particulars on the current D.L.? Because he seems like a pretty righteous guy to me.

I've grown wary of P & T after their pandering to the Skeptical Environmentalist crowd.

Btw, I love your handle. :)

16. I'll re-watch it tonight
The one thing I remember was his being on the CIA payroll until it became public. I paid more attention to the Mother Theresa part because, sorry to say, I do think that she's overblown, and while it wasn't a sexual kink like Penn implied, she didn't do anything to alleviate suffering, and she hobknobbed with some pretty shady characters.

17. That would be great, looking forward to your report
The CIA did bankroll an insurgency against the Chinese occupation, but iirc it failed pretty quickly. It wouldn't surprise me at all to learn H.H. took some CIA money.

19. Okay... summation
Before fleeing in 1959 from Tibet, Dali headed a social system that was exploitive, unequal, and brutal.
Privileged priest class living in utter elegance and peasant class living in misery.
Reportedly, punishments for breaking the law could involve torture, mutilation, eye-gouging, tongue pulling out, and disembowelment.
Used to be on CIA payroll to the tune of $180,000 a year for living expenses and 1.5 million a year to finance guerilla operations against the Chinese, including running a covert training facility in Colorado. When that was made public, it was a bit of a PR problem so he went off the dole and started sucking up to Hollywood.

That's pretty much it...

20. Great, thanks for the review
What sources did they cite? I ask because their hit piece on environmentalism was total, well, bullshit. They relied entirely on Lomborg's Skeptical Environmentalist, which is, in the words of Jared Diamond, "an embarrassment."

So I have to wonder if they're not just parroting Chinese government propaganda.

2. London did the same garbage in Los Angeles
He is a pale carbon of Howard Stern, he had a "House Party" show here that was blatantly racist, repeatedly insulting Asians. He was and still is a jerk

3. I remember the House Party
I loved The House Party back then. I don't remember much insulting of Asians, but my memory's not so good these days.

4. Ahhh...the stink of desperate squawking heads.
Realizing their pustulent right-wing-buttboy genre is coming to its natural end, they are getting sloppy.

Perhaps one of them will have a coronary or psychotic break on air. That would be real entertainment.

8. You mean it's possible for one of these asshats to get fired?
I mean, Bill Bennett didn't get fired. Boortz, Glenn Beck, Limpballs, Savage? I guess it takes an explicit contract on the air - blatant racism and hatred just ain't enough.

15. Glad London got fired - about time someone took the idiots
Edited on Tue Apr-11-06 01:32 PM by RamboLiberal
seriously. Also the clown in Arizona who wanted to kill illegal immigrants.

But this sentiment won't be popular here either. IMHO it was despicable of Penn Jillette to make those comments about Mother Teresa, especially the "sexual kicks". I'd have turned him off and fired off an email to him as well.

In fact I'd nominate both Jillette and London for KO's worst person in the world on this one!
