Gallup: Americans Accuse Administration of Weakening Environment

NEW YORK A new Gallup poll released today finds most Americans, by nearly a 2-1 margin, saying the government is doing too little to protect the environment. "A majority also says that President George W. Bush is doing a poor rather than a good job protecting the environment, with a substantial minority accusing the Bush administration of weakening the country's environmental policies," Gallup reports.

According to the annual poll on this subject, conducted March 13-16, 2006, 62% of Americans say the government is doing too little to protect the environment, while 33% say it's doing about the right amount, and just 4% say the government is doing too much. This year's reading continues a negative trend since the 2003 poll.

Similarly, 55% of Americans say Bush personally is doing a poor job of protecting the environment and 33% say a good job.

Democrats, as would be expected, are much more critical than Republicans but the key here is that Independents largely agree with the Democrats. Only 33% of Republicans believe the government is doing too little to protect the environment, but 67% of independents and 78% of Democrats feel that way.

2. Bush's lowest approval rating will be 30% and his highest disapproval...
will be 67%. Sadly, he should be in the mid eighties for disapproval, but that will never happen.

13. His fanatic base...
of neocon fundamentalists will always live in a bubble created by their psychosis. As for the environment, Bush has made it clear that in his delusion God will always provide and keep all christians safe; as for the world, fuckit. Pollute, consume, and make as many species extinct as you want, God will keep you safe.

Republicans have denied global warming long enough, and Bush has censored scientist for long enough! I would like Bush to drink a whole glass of ddt and tell us that it doesn't cause cancer.

5. These polls are such bullshit
Americans don't really care about the enviornment, or about keeping abortion legal or about the deficit etc. If they truly did, Bush wouldn't be in the White House. Even accounting for stolen votes the numbers in these polls don't match up with the election. So, all of you idiots who "care" about the environment but still voted for Bush - F*CK YOU.

8. Bush is in the White House because SCOTUS put him there --
in 2000 and KKKarl stole the election for him in 2004.

Your point that Americans don't really care about the environment, abortion, deficit -- still has some validity, but thinking in all-or-none terms is often not helpful.

10. Even if many of these people are repubs with buyers' regret,
i don't think it is very helpful to call them idiots and tell the to go f* themselves.

12. Are you saying the poll is made up, or are you saying
that those who answered the poll saying W does to little to improve the environment are hypocrites, or "idiots" as you put it.

If the poll is faked then there are no actual idiots, no-one to be f*cked, in the context of this poll.

If there are idiots who voted in this poll as they did, then the poll is not faked.

The two are mutually exclusive, but it seems you are saying both.

14. Once again
I can't seem to semi vent without being taken to task. Perhaps I should have placed a sarcasm symbol, but that would be overstating my point too. I was simply venting about people saying they are concerned about certain issues and then still voting for Bush. Perhaps stated crudely, I was merely throwing my hands up in the air in response to the poll with a "why did you vote for him you idiots?". I stand by my use of the word idiot for anyone voting for Bush - especially in the second election.

11. Doesn't the word "Accuse" seem strange?
To me, it has a ring of, how dare these uppity Americans "accuse" this administration of any wrongdoing?

18. It's a strange word choice, and insulting.
Being conscious of what devastation Bush has wrought is hardly similar to trying to make trouble for the idiot.

16. "Weakening" is the understatement of the month.
The * Administration is ravaging the environment.
* seems to be actively working towards destroying the earth. This administration hates nature!

And yes, as another poster mentioned, "accuse" is a loaded word that paints * as a victim of taunting. Awww, poor widdle B*sh. Nobody wikes him. Meanies.

66% is enough to get a President convicted in the Senate.
