Cheney to Throw First Pitch at Nats' Home Opener
WASHINGTON (AP) - Vice President Dick Cheney will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Washington Nationals' Major League Baseball home opener next week, the team said Wednesday.

The Nationals' first home game of the season is Tuesday afternoon against the New York Mets.

Since 1910, 12 presidents and four vice presidents have thrown a ceremonial pitch in Washington.

Last year, the capital's first with a baseball team since 1971, President Bush tossed out the first pitch at the home opener. Many fans were late to their seats because security lines at metal detectors - installed for the president's visit - were still 20 deep when the game began.

7. Mostly applauded since...
* tackily walked out with 2-3 wounded Iraq vets. Hard to boo in that situation. I presume that they will use the same ploy in DC. I can't believe that anyone will cheer cheney but I just don't think he cares. The other issue is, can he actually throw the ball. I think he'll go halfway to the plate and throw from there.

19. It also may be because all the fans were rich season ticket holders
In the Cincinnati area the wealthy are very heavily Republican.

9. The Wonders of Formaldehyde
I'm glad they can conveniently reanimate the bastard for public appearances, when he isn't secreted away hunting lawyers and quail with SCOTUS judges and lobbyists. There haven't been such advances in cadaver preservation since Lenin.

Baseball makes him look like he actually gives a shit about America, but we all know better.

10. Think Cheney will get the ball to the plate?
With his heart problems, they'll probably have an ambulance on the field with paramedics waiting to revive him after the strain on his Darth Vader heart. Better yet, they'll probably have one of those pitching machines on the mound and he can just push the button to send the ball to the catcher. Sounds like the equivalent of canned bird hunting to me.

15. cheney at yankee stadium
was seriously booed back in 2002 (?) when they showed him on the jumbotron sitting with rudy g.

also, when * threw out the first ball in st. louis last april, there were rumors that the park piped in fake appaluse to counter the boos.

16. As the catcher, I would demand Dick pitch from the mound...
and continue to throw until he can throw a 90 mile an hour fast ball over the plate. Perhaps the exertion will cause Dick to pass out, then be forced to resign due to poor health. Don't wish him any harm you understand. A bit far fetched, but we can hope.

22. Tickets Still Available
Hope there's no lawyers in range. :D

According to what I saw on the WaPo's site, there are still about 10,000 tickets available. What do you say, DC/MD/NoVA DU-ers? Make up a bunch of "Go F*ck Yourself, Cheney!" shirts and go to the ballpark?
