Blast heard in Iraqi city of Najaf
Edited on Thu Apr-06-06 05:09 AM by maddezmom
NAJAF, Iraq (Reuters) - A blast was heard on Thursday in Iraq's southern Shi'ite city of Najaf and ambulances were heard rushing to the scene, residents said.

There was no immediate word on the cause of the explosion.

Najaf is home to the most sacred Shi'ite shrine. Mostly Shi'ite southern Iraq has been relatively free of the Sunni insurgent violence gripping central Iraq but rivalries among Shi'ite groups with militias have been growing.

There is really nothing to discuss except that if we don't see the reports here, we won't see them anywhere else.

6. relative is a relative term
Najaf is only relatively calm because of the Shiite Militia that police it.

7. Najaf has been fairly calm
Except, of course, for the vicious, month-long battle that the US Marines fought with the Mehdi Army in the cemetary and environs of the Iman Ali shrine....:eyes:
