Fitzgerald Knew Identity of Leaker From Start
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/040306Z.shtml

The special counsel appointed in late December 2003 to investigate the leak of covert CIA operative Valerie Plame Wilson found out the identity of the Bush administration official who disclosed her undercover status to syndicated columnist Robert Novak just two months after the probe began.

...

The Bush administration official was given an ultimatum: either cooperate with the special counsel's probe or face criminal charges for his involvement in the leak, attorneys close to the case said.

The senior official decided to cooperate with the investigation and told Fitzgerald that Libby and Rove spoke to reporters about Plame Wilson, the attorneys said.

The official has been identified by attorneys and four current and former White House officials as John Hannah, a senior national security aide on loan to Vice President Dick Cheney from then-Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Affairs John Bolton.

Arms control. He knew.

The forged Niger document author is going to be revealed....BOLTON under Cheney direction.

But with the President able to do anything he needs to fight the war on terror. No crime will of been committed.

Here comes the right wing..."Where's the crime?" mantra....

20. I wonder whether anyone can be prosecuted under
a general reading of "fraud against the U.S." statutes? That seems to me to answer the question fo "Where's the crime?", aside from the blatant violation of the statute regarding non-disclosure of undercover intelligence assets.

Thus, if Hannah can provide documentation that his leak came upon the direct orders of Cheney (via email, logs or, perish the notion, audio- or video-tapes), that statutory violation can be coupled with the crime of the original forgery of the documents perhaps coming from John Bolton, which is the "fraud" portion of the case. That is, intentionally forging documents to influence the policies and actions of the U.S. government would seem to constitute an act of fraud upon the people\taxpayers of the U.S.

Or am I missing something here?

16. Finally! That fucking rat is nailed against the wall and no place to run!
Rove told FBI investigators on five occasions and testified twice before a grand jury that he distributed damaging information about Plame to the Republican National Committee, outside political consultants and the media after Novak had disclosed her identity, according to the attorneys who are familiar with Rove's testimony.

However, Rove was actually a source for Novak and another reporter who wrote about Plame Wilson but failed to disclose that fact in nearly a dozen times he was questioned about his role in the leak.

Sources said that Fitzgerald is now preparing the paperwork to present to a grand jury outlining the charges against Rove in hopes of securing an indictment.

The attorneys close to the case said that in order to build a rock-solid perjury and obstruction case against Libby, Fitzgerald needed to secure the testimony of the journalists Libby spoke to about Plame Wilson.

The investigation surely would have ended in 2004, the attorneys said, but journalists Fitzgerald subpoenaed went to court to fight the subpoena and the legal challenge delayed the case for nearly a year.

It's past time for mere censure, anything less than impeachment would be a grave miscarriage of justice. The country needs a special election to wipe every trace of bush and his cabal from our government.

26. Real treason and impeachable offenses
I thought it would be helpful to distinguish true treasonous acts from fake ones.

Not treason: wearing a hajib head covering in Iraq by freed hostage

Real treason: leaking national security secrets, severely undermining our defenses

Not treason: an extra-marital blow-job from an intern

Real treason: invading the privacy of Americans by spying without a warrant

Thanks to Truthout for what looks like the first real reasonable deduction of who demolished our worldwide WMD covert program at the CIA.

40. I think the media doesn't know how to report it yet
At this point the whole thing is pretty convoluted with a lot of twists and "what ifs." Once charges are actually brought and the issue is boiled down to a set of specific charges, then (hopefully) the mainstream media will pick it up.

49. If we'd waited for that during Watergate.......
Nixon would have ended up serving his second full term. The media WAS the investigation in the early stages back then. Woodward and Bernstein turned over a lot of rocks to find the slugs in Nixon's administration. If it was left to the government investigation it would have ended with burglary charges against Liddy and the plumbers. Must we hold a gun to the media's head in order for them to report any of this? Why are they so scared to dig below the surface, what are they scared of finding?
I'll tell you what they'll find! Another Republican administration gone wild, committing crimes left and right... ending once again in impeachment of a Republican President. I guess they don't want to seem "too liberal" :eyes: so in the interest of being "fair and balanced" they do nothing! :puke:
The corporate media is hiding, they're scared shitless. They're cowards! Isn't there ONE freaking journalist out there that wants to break from the herd and do some REAL INVESTIGATIVE REPORTING?

33. What does Leopold really know?
This is a continuing series of leak articles by Leopold about an investigation that has been, up until now, airtight.
Last week, Leopold told us that the coming indictments targeted Rove and Hadley. This week it's been downsized to just Rove.
While everyone here including me would love to see this thing play out with more indictments, I think it's prudent to wait for Fitz to make the call. Leopold offers no solid proof of his contacts, knowledge, or stated information.
Truthout may be getting a little truthiness.
