Liberian warlord Taylor 'disappears' from Nigerian villa
ABUJA (AFP) - Former Liberian leader and war crimes suspect Charles Taylor has disappeared from the villa in which he was living in exile in Nigeria, the Nigerian presidency said in a statement.

The statement said Taylor had left his house in Calabar some time on Monday night and President Olusegun Obasanjo, who on Saturday had said that Taylor would be handed back to Liberia, had set up a panel to investigate.

Obasanjo's spokeswoman, Remi Oyo, added: "All the security people who were in charge of looking after Mr Taylor have been arrested."

A five-member panel including a retired police chief and a representative of the United Nations Development Programme would investigate who was responsible for the disappearance and "ascertain whether he escaped or was abducted."

8. I've read the story that Pat had his staff praying with him as they flew
across to Africa that their trip to buy diamonds or some other expensive commodity would be super profitable.

It never quite made sense that Pat Robertson loved his relationship with his pal Charles Taylor but couldn't rage enough against a well-loved leader like Hugo Chavez. Damned odd.

Taylor missing from Nigerian home

Liberia's ex-President Charles Taylor, who is wanted on war crimes charges, has disappeared from the villa where he lived in exile, Nigeria says.
All of those supposed to have been guarding him have been arrested.

At the weekend, Nigeria said it would let him be arrested, but both Liberia and the US said Nigeria should send him to a UN-backed war crimes court.

Mr Taylor stepped down as president in 2003 under a deal to end the Liberian civil war, which he started in 1989.

Hopefully, Taylor will be apprehended soon and brought before an international tribunal where he will receive a fair and impartial trail.

Also, there is something gratifying about visualizing in some hopefully not-too-distant future the present US political leadership fleeing their homes as justice comes knocking at their doors.

Facing Charges, Ex-Liberian Leader Flees
By MICHELLE FAUL, Associated Press Writer

ABUJA, Nigeria - Former Liberian President Charles Taylor disappeared from his Nigerian haven, days after his hosts agreed to transfer him to a war crimes tribunal for complicity in the murder, rape and maiming of more than a half-million Africans, officials said Tuesday.

The announcement of Taylor's disappearance came the day before Nigerian leader Olusegun Obasanjo was to meet with President Bush at the White House.

The White House suggested Tuesday that Bush may refuse to meet with Obasanjo without answers about Taylor's disappearance.

"Right now we're looking for answers from the Nigerian government about the whereabouts of Charles Taylor," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said
