Shiites suspend talks with U.S.

Leaders angered by Sunday's attack on a community

By KIRK SEMPLE
New York Times

BAGHDAD - Frayed relations between Iraq's Shiite leadership and the American authorities came under increased strain on Monday as Shiite leaders expressed fury over an American-led attack on a Shiite compound and suspended negotiations over a new government.

The raid on Sunday evening that killed at least 16 people also led the governor of Baghdad to announce a halt in cooperation with the United States, and Shiite militiamen to brandish their weapons in the streets of eastern Baghdad and declare their readiness to retaliate against American troops.

Violence, meanwhile, continued elsewhere. In the village of Kasak, between Mosul and Tal Afar, a man wrapped in explosives detonated himself at an army recruitment center, killing at least 40 people and wounding at least 30.

Investigation planned

President Jalal Talabani said he would lead a joint Iraqi-American committee to investigate the Sunday evening raid.

"I will personally supervise, and we will learn who was responsible," the president said. "Those who are behind this attack must be brought to justice and punished."

1. Could this be a false flag designed to implicate the US?
That would be a switch.

3. The military commanders are claiming such.
So far, every other source in the world (that I've researched) says it's legitimate. Time will tell, but, given the preference of this administration for fiction over fact, my money is on the original story.

5. our story has changed by the hour.
Generally that is the sign of an evolving coverup, not a false flag operation. First we didn't know nothing. Then we disputed the number dead. Then it wasn't actually a mosque (it wasn't, it was a place of worship.) Then somebody messed with the scene (it wasn't that bad when we left!!!). Sorry, but we did this.

when Iraqis took over responsibility for themselves? Seems like they are doing it. Is the *Co plan to save face to get thrown out of Iraq?

6. GOOD NEWS!
Edited on Tue Mar-28-06 11:22 AM by rocknation
Iraqi leaders take a big step toward independent by demonstrating a grasp of the inherent hypocrisy of investigating themselves.

9. There's been so much fallout from that raid, it's hard to keep track of it
all.

The lack of attention given to this item sort of shows how irrelevant the unformed supposed government of Iraq truly is.

Thanks for the rec.
