Bigger Than Watergate! - How To Rig An Election In The United States
Edited on Tue Jul-08-03 02:57 AM by Wonk
Bev Harris got some of her research published, re: blackboxvoting.

on edit: I forgot to add this link to the GD thread about this. I hope this is one of those times the mods allow a dupe because the threads are slightly different. This one is the article, while the other one is Bev saying that the research that she's been doing is finally going (sort of) mainstream. I can't vouch for the journalistic integrity of scoop.co.nz but they did include a caveat. YMMV.

Small plane crashes near Toronto Islands

By JEFF GRAY and JONATHAN FOWLIE
From Tuesday's Globe and Mail

Toronto — He was an accomplished pilot, used to doing aerobatic stunts, but Monday he was approaching Toronto City Centre Airport in dense fog when something went wrong.

Jon Gregg, a 59-year-old corporate lawyer from Chicago, is missing after his small, six-seater Beechcraft Baron light twin aircraft slammed into Lake Ontario Monday morning.

Police would not confirm his identity, but believe the pilot was the only person onboard the downed aircraft. Colleague Thomas Cole said Mr. Gregg was flying to Toronto to see a client.

6. Thinking out loud...
(6 month old Dominic is up a fitful night becuse Mom is upset she knows the woman who threw her twins in the Mississippi and is having a tough time dealing with it. Mom just got home from work and they are going to sleep now.)

1. Story is false planted to discredit voting machine story.
2. Story is false and she is partying somewhere with Mrs Ted Olson.
3. Story is true (another "fantastic" coincidence).
4. Story is true, lots of people disappearing under the Bush watch.

11. Scoop is very left, but pretty reliable
And they were far from the only ones caught out on the Katherine Harris thing. This story is real--do a DU search on BevHarris or Black Box.

4. This makes me want to throttle Cathy Cox!
Election officials lost their memory: Fulton County election officials said that memory cards from 67 electronic voting machines had been misplaced, so ballots cast on those machines were left out of previously announced vote totals. No hand count can shine any light on this; the entire state of Georgia went to touch-screen machines with no physical record of the vote. Fifty-six cards, containing 2,180 ballots, were located, but 11 memory cards still were missing two days after the election: Bibb County and Glynn County each had one card missing after the initial vote count. When DeKalb County election officials went home early Wednesday morning, they were missing 10 cards.

So I brave a torrential downpour just to have my vote stolen by these sycophants? No wonder Max lost, it was rigged.

7. Needs a lede
Can someone give me a sentence, maybe two, that tells me why one should read further in the article beyond the "watershed" and "bigger than watergate" stuff?

I mean, I read the first half, and was still wondering what the big deal was. I've been out of the Bev loop on GD, so I'm at the "Joe Lunchbox" level on this, and frankly, I wasn't "grabbed".

10. I agree
That isn't the most elegant piece of newswriting--takes a long and elaborate way round to the point.

How about:

A loose confederation of computer programmers have discovered major security lapses, if not actual evidence of tampering, in the software that counts 80% of America's votes.

No one can say whether these lapses were deliberate, but there seems little reasonable explanation as to why they have been included in the software. Nor is it easy to fathom why agencies charged with certifying this software could have overlooked such glaring security problems, which make it possible to change votes in an election and then erase all evidence of tampering.

12. nitpicky proofreader
Dear Dr. BB. Your verb should agree with your subject. To wit: "A loose confederation HAS discovered...."

Otherwise, carry on! Good show!
