Senator to Sponsor Legislation Banning Funeral Protests
Indiana Senator Evan Bayh plans to introduce federal legislation to limit protests at funerals for soldiers who die on active duty. The Dignity for Military Funerals Act will require protesters to stay 300 feet from a funeral.

1.
It's awful to have one's mourning (or anything else) disturbed by protesters, but when Phelps and his people show up at funerals, they are showing people exactly what kind of homophobic assholes they really are. Fred Phelps is our cointelpro.

2. Free speech means you have to put up with things you'd rather not hear in order to be allowed to voice things other people would rather not hear. "Free speech zones" are anything but.

7. I don't see it as a free-speech zone.
They aren't being restricted to one small location. They are being restricted from entering one small location. Kind of like when they tell anti-choice protesters they have to stay so many feet away from clinics.

What's the First Amendment for it not for speech that people don't want to hear?
