California Rep. Gallegly reverses retirement, will seek new term

Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican Rep. Elton Gallegly of California reversed course Wednesday and said he will seek re-election to an 11th term rather than follow through on retirement plans he announced last week.
Gallegly, 62, had cited unspecified health reasons when he announced on Friday, the deadline to file for re-election, that he wouldn’t run again to represent the 24th District.
But Gallegly had already filed candidacy papers, so he could not remove his name from the June primary ballot. The late retirement announcement also left no time for anyone else to file candidacy papers.
Only one other Republican made the ballot — first-time candidate Michael Tenenbaum, 37.

1. I still think the seat could be in play for us
I mean, he pulls a stunt and then reverses himself? Sounds like good basis for a campaign to me and I'm willing to do what I can to help Jill Martinez.

2. I think it's in play, too. It'd be a good pick up.

5. Rove and Bush both
according to another story I read. Plus, Gallegly says if he wins this one it will be his last term.

6. Dr. Rove, that is.
News story locally said Gallegly's doctor reversed his advice. Uhmmm...sure.

It all works, imo, in a good campaign against him.

safe GOP district. I'm depressed that by this time next year we might have by default a 37-year old rookie.

I just cannot tolerate the idea of my congressman being younger than I am, and Repub to boot. :puke:
