Orange County (CA) retrofitting 9,000 voting machines with printers
Big Tab Covers Voting Device Retrofit
O.C. supervisors approve $12 million to fit 9,000 machines so voters can get their required printouts.

Orange County supervisors Tuesday approved spending $12 million to retrofit 9,000 electronic voting machines to give voters printed displays of their ballot choices, an expense required by state law for the June election.

Acting county Registrar Neal Kelley said the action came just in time and followed certification of the retrofitted equipment Friday by the secretary of state's office.

A team of 60 will begin cutting holes in voting booths Monday to accommodate the new printers, which also must undergo several tests before being cleared for use.

4. All voters should place their checked and printed displays
into a lockbox after touch screen voting.
These should be then counted in public view, after election results are in, AND compared to touchscreen tallies.

Proof is in the pudding, as they say.

7. This is sooooo..... BAD
The machines can print one thing and record a different count.
It creates the illusion of control. Does nothing to guarantee the
totals are accurate.
BAD BAD BAD

9. You may be right about this. However, the presence of the print
out somewhat complicates the process for the crooks. Also, there is always a chance that large numbers of voters might compare their counts in exit polls with the reported counts. Still not too secure but a step in the right direction.
