AP) Camp Shelby, Miss. Minnesota National Guard members and their families will be treated to a steak picnic today at Camp Shelby, Mississippi, as they prepare to head for Iraq.

AP) Camp Shelby, Miss. Thousands of relatives and friends joined congressional delegates and other officials at a Mississippi military base on Wednesday to spend time with nearly 4,100 soldiers from across the country who are deploying to Iraq.

The deployment of the 2,600 Minnesota soldiers in the 1/34th Brigade Combat Team will be the largest contingent of that state's National Guard troops to see combat since World War II.

The rest of the brigade includes soldiers from Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Nebraska, New Jersey and others from across the country
