Ordinary Iraqi families getting ready to fight
Baghdad -- Om Hussein, wrapped in her black abaya, lists the contents of the family's walk-in storage closet: three 175-pound cases of rice, two 33-pound cases of cooking fat, six cases of canned tomatoes, three crates of assorted legumes, a one-month supply of drinking water, frozen chicken livers in the freezer. And in the garage, jerry cans filled with fuel are piled floor to ceiling.
Om Hussein, who was reluctant to give her full name, and her Shiite family are preparing for war. They've stocked up on food. They bought a Kalashnikov rifle and a second car -- so that there is space for all 13 members of their extended family should they need to flee in a hurry.

3. Sounds like what I'm getting ready to do in my own home!
Hopefully not in case of civil war - but bird flu, recession, huge gas prices...

8. You should be prepared for an emergency.
Water, food, fuel, batteries, plastic garbage bags, radio, etc. Living here in earthquake country you're a fool if you don't have supplies.

2. This is sad....not only do they have to worry about the
religious violence on one side they have to worry about traveling in the car to get away from the violence in their car....Many Iraqi families have been shot in killed in their family vehicles!!

6. Sounds like a pretty good description of a civil war.
Does the Chimp think the sides will have to line up in ranks of blue and grey before it's civil war?

7. They sound prosperous
To be able to have these suplies, I imagine there are millions of Iraqis who have enough stored to get through a very short time, just like here.

When the stockup is gone then all hell will break loose, just like here.
