US marines 'die' in Afghan bomb
Three US marines have been killed by a bomb in Afghanistan's Kunar Province, the local governor has told the BBC.

Assadullah Wafa said the soldiers were killed by a remote-controlled bomb in Wattapoar district. One was injured. There is no US confirmation.

He blamed militants from the former Taleban regime for the attack. Two days ago, a Pakistani man accused of aiding al-Qaeda and the Taleban was arrested in the area.

The Kunar Province governor said that Haji Nadir was a "trusted al-Qaeda operative".
He told the BBC's Bilal Sarwary Mr Nadir was suspected of training fighters and making bombs for use in Afghanistan.

1. When are we going to understand?
We are an occupying army. The people living under our occupation will continue to attack and kill us until we leave.

Where is the exit plan?

4. They have no confirmation of this from the US
just from the provincial governor
A spokesman for the U.S. military in the capital Kabul said he had no immediate information about the incident.

( hopefully it's not true)

5. Your thinking in outdated terms of the old Republic. In the new
BushAmerican theocracy, they are not dead, but in heaven with Jesus.

In BushAmerica, troops don't "die," they "pass over."

34. See post #4
When something is unconfirmed, the BBC will use quotes to make it clear it's what one person says, not a known fact. The story now says killed, without the quotes.

35. Like Schroedinger's Cat
With no confirmation, are the Marines both dead and alive at the same time? Unfortunately, no. They are certainly one or the other, and one is good only when compared to the other.

6. Afghan Bombing Kills Four U.S. Troops
KABUL, Afghanistan - A roadside bomb exploded Sunday as a U.S. armored vehicle drove by in eastern Afghanistan, killing four American service members, the U.S. military said.

The armored vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive in the Pech Valley, Kunar province, where the Americans were patrolling to keep a road open to civilian and military traffic, the military said in a statement.

Earlier, Kunar Gov. Asadullah Wafa said a remote-controlled mine exploded, hitting a convoy of American troops on patrol in the Watapur area of the province, killing three and wounding one.

At least 220 members of the U.S. military have died in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Uzbekistan as a result of the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan in late 2001, according to the Defense Department.

36. In Memorium
This segment at the end of "This Week With George" lists military deaths during the week,
with rank, name, hometown...today six of the twelve were Sgt. rank or above. How long can
the troops sustain this loss of NCO's, much less each and every lost life? Jim Lehrer's PBS
daily news program does the same. Bush and all his gang are indeed criminals, deserving
of the harshest penalty imaginable. :grr:

that much anymore. Really sad. It's when we become desensitized that the need for action is greatest. Our soldiers need to leave - including those in Afghanistan. IMO, our soldiers in Iraq will get caught in a civil war if they don't.

32. What I see eventually happening (if we go on to attack Iran) is that all
of our poor men and women over there will be caught in this big squeeze because of a reaction of all the Middle Eastern countries. They gotta be sick and tired of us bombing who the hell ever we want to when we want to for whatever fake reason that we give.

It sends chills when I hear Cheney sabre-ratting - because he's like a ghoul with his sickle. Iran might be more of a threat than Iraq, but we're not well prepared anyway after the huge mistake of going into Iraq. Right now, I see no imminent attack coming from Iran.
