U.N. Watchdog: Iran Deal Could Be Imminent
VIENNA, Austria (AP) -

The head of the U.N. atomic watchdog agency said Monday a deal on Iran's suspect nuclear program could be only a few days away, making U.N. Security Council action unneeded.

International Atomic Energy Agency head Mohamed ElBaradei did not elaborate. But his optimism was believed to be linked to a confidential Russian proposal to allow Iran to enrich some uranium domestically, diplomats said. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to divulge details of the plan.

"I am still very much hopeful that in the next week, an agreement could be reached," ElBaradei told reporters, without elaborating.

However, the plan - which Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov planned to discuss with officials in Washington - was expected to meet strong U.S. resistance over fears it could be misused to make nuclear weapons.

1. O.K. - Who Wants To Bet Me That King george Objects To This?
I'll even give you odds.

I've also got this bridge for sale....in Iraq. There's NO WAY that the U.S. is going to approve of this. Just like with Iraq, we're determined to go after Iran, anyway possible.

I just don't see this changing a thing as far as King george is concerned. He's on a mission from God.

5. We are doing the same BS with Iran...
that we did with Iraq. You would think that they would at least try a different tactic. No, Bush will object and he'll attack Iran, with or with out congress's approval.

16. If they reach an agreement it is unlikely that the Security Counsel
will recommend any sanctions. That didn't stop their last adventure into the Middle East. Look for "irrelevant" spin.

2. Iran won't agree to anything we'd accept.
Plus the Iranians continue to play a stalling game, agreeing to discuss this or that, and then pulling back after a bit.

The bottom line seems to be that Iran thinks for some unknown reason that it has a hostile military force on two of its borders controlled by a super power that keeps threatening to dismantle the Iranian government, and that the only way Iran can retain its sovereignty is to build a credible nuclear deterrent as fast is it can. I don't know why the Iranians are so paranoid and irrational about this.

7. LOL, this could get interesting
That would mean the big push to bring Iran issues before the Security Council, the intent of bush and his creep, Bolton, will fail. Anything the bush cabal would try and force on the Security Council will be vetoed by Russia and/or China if a deal is, indeed, made as the IAEA is working toward.

9. Yes, that has always been one of my points. Both China and Russia
hold veto power. They need Iran's oil. Bush is impotent.

15. The Euro
like any currency can be manipulated. I can think of several actions we could take that would have immediate effects on the price of the euro.

However the simplest analogy to the commodity of oil is Budweiser.

There is a finite amount made and no matter what you sell it for, the market will compensate. If you go to the corner store to buy a six pack and the guy is selling it for 15% more (the euro scheme would fuck europe, they have a currency advantage) than his competitor across the street, he is screwed. There are dozens of stores all selling the EXACT same product. no one buys his beer and he makes shit. Then when he figures out how stupid he is he dumps his price and tries to pay the bills. Thus creating a surplus that makes up for his temporary imbalance.
