TALLAHASSEE -- Two Democratic lawmakers have introduced legislation to strengthen the state's role in port inspections, but Gov. Jeb Bush said on Friday that Florida already has the toughest port security in the nation.

Sen. Ron Klein of Delray Beach and Rep. Tim Ryan of Dania Beach unveiled their proposal to spend $10 million on equipping and training port security and local law enforcement agencies for increased inspection of cargo containers.

``Last year alone, 127.4 million tons of cargo passed through Florida's ports and yet only a fraction of that cargo was inspected,'' Klein said. ``That this obvious lapse in security has not been addressed on the federal level demonstrates just what a low priority port security is.''

4. another lead-in to selling port inspections to the "globalization"
market, i.e., someone else.

It's not "protectionist" to believe that we should keep some of the money of this country in this country's economy. If the U.S. isn't ready to compete on pricing in the global market, then we shouldn't be giving away the baby with the shiny new bathtub.

We're just cutting off our feet to spite our face once again.

14. You nailed it, absolutely
ONE Bush going soft on port security is one thing; double-teaming that softness on port security = a plan.
