Fights Break Out at Florida Neo-Nazi Rally (Guardian/AP)
Saturday February 25, 2006 9:31 PM

By KELLI KENNEDY

Associated Press Writer

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Fist fights broke out and police made more than a dozen arrests at a neo-Nazi rally and march Saturday through a predominantly black neighborhood.

Most of the arrests came after fights between supporters of the National Socialist Movement and angry counter-demonstrators, who were upset with the group's anti-minority message.

About 30 members of the neo-Nazi group wore khaki uniforms, black boots and red armbands with swastikas during the march through the Orlando neighborhood of Parramore. They were confronted by more than 100 protesters, some holding signs including ones that read, ``Stop the hate. Stop the violence'' and ``Love everyone.''

The neo-Nazis marched down one side of the road and protesters the other, separated by two lines of police. Both groups hurled insults at each other.

But with the help of the America's premier Skull & Boner Klan, and his own peculiar brand of occult Black Magic, he rose to incredibly hateful destructive power

5. For the (very ugly) record
http://www.guardian.co.uk/usa/story/0,12271,1312540,00.html

How Bush's grandfather helped Hitler's rise to power

Rumours of a link between the US first family and the Nazi war machine have circulated for decades. Now the Guardian can reveal how repercussions of events that culminated in action under the Trading with the Enemy Act are still being felt by today's president

George Bush's grandfather, the late US senator Prescott Bush, was a director and shareholder of companies that profited from their involvement with the financial backers of Nazi Germany.

2. Why bother calling themselves Nazis?
If they'd just buy suits and call themselves Republicans, no one would bother their hate-mongering racist ways.

It's all in the packaging, folks.

18. I think the name comes from Hitler's early connection
and takeover of the socialist workers party in Germany. One he had control they kept part of the name but no longer followed the ideas.

19. Well, you really need the *Nationalist* qualifier in front...
That's partly what made them (the nazis) so vile. Nationalism "justified" most of their actions.

They used (even after the takeover of the DAP) a great number of historically socialist principles in furtherance of their nationalistic aims, some quite close until the end of their power:
- Free public medicine programs, used to improve the general health of the "nation of germans".
- A political party comprised mainly of workers and middle class citizens, with party membership needed for government jobs... and preference for jobs going to members of the "nation of germans".
- Government-run public youth programs... for "germans"
- Government-run cultural and arts programs ... for, and about, "germans"
- Government-run large scale public works programs (transportation and infrastructure) to benefit "germans"
- A universal right to employment... for "germans"
- A confiscation of war profits and war profiteering, with the money to be spent on "germans"
- A strong national education program for all "germans"
- The government as an organ to serve the common "german" people (Volk), above the needs of business, or the government itself (the Nazi party was anti-fascist, oddly enough)
- The placement of religious belief as secondary to common social aims and precepts... for "germans"
- Limited profit abilities for companies, to benefit "germans"
- Expanded pensions... for "germans"
- Rent freezes ... for "germans"
- Removal of capitol speculation, banking, and other non-labor profit activities, in order to benefit "germans"

See the common thread? They had a lot of tenets of socialism built into the party, and great social programs..... *for those who were considered part of the German nation*. This meant that the massive cost of such programs could be supported by seizing the assets of non-germans, or wealthy companies, or other nations, at will. Eventually, though, the costs meant perpetual warfare to sieze more assets, or a scaling back in programs, both of which happened.

There's more detail on wikipedia, of course...

25. "The Nazi party was anti-fascist"??? What history are you reading?....
...The Nazi Party was CLEARLY rightwing and fascist from their very early beginnings. There is no disagreement among respected historians on this point.

The Nazis used the term "spcialist" to make the party more attractive to those that sat on the on the political fence between those on the right (Nazis, and other rightwing paramilitary groups), and those on the left (Communists, and other leftwing and true socialist groups).

26. Yes, Nazi's/National Socialist Party courted the "little guy"
and appealed to the ordinary German. Hitler railed about the upper class and was a perverted Robin Hood for the German people in their desperation and humiliation following WWI. Did you read Ian Kernshaw's 2 enourmous books on Hitler, Hubris and Nemisis?

7. Such a shame that police have to protect such people
I'd like it if the cops would just let the crowds do as they please to the Nazis and then arrest the Nazis for provoking the people.

9. I'd like that too, until they decide to let the crowds do as they please
to anti-war or anti-capitalist protestors, and then arrest them for provoking the people (which looks a damn sight more likely these days, dunnit?)

had the guts to go up to the NN's and counter-protesters and ask who they voted for. Now THAT would be a story: Survey Finds that Majority of Neo Nazis Are Bush Voters.

23. The Nazis were not from Florida, but Minnesota
Considered one of the most progressive states in the country.

No members of the Minneapolis-based National Socialist Movement were arrested, police said. A spokesman for the neo-Nazi group said they were protesting crime in Orlando.

24. I see it was some SHARP's who did the brawling
Back in the eighties, SHARP's drove all the Nazi skinheads off the streets of San Francisco...and there were plenty around in the early eighties. I had, and still have respect for the boots-and-braces boys willing to put the stomp to these racist idiots. It got to the point to where Nazi skinheads couldn't walk the streets in SF thanks to the guts of the real traditionalists.

Well done, lads and lasses!:toast:
