Russia wants to complete Iran nuclear plant swiftly
Sat Feb 25, 2006 4:58 AM ET

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia wants to complete building of a nuclear power station in Iran as soon as possible, the country's top nuclear official said on Saturday, the Itar-Tass news agency reported.

Sergei Kiriyenko, head of Russia's atomic energy agency Rosatom, said during a visit to Tehran that the civilian nuclear plant at Bushehr in Iran would be completed as fast as possible. Russia is helping to build the plant.

"We don't see any political obstacles to completing Bushehr and we are interested in it (the station) being launched in the swiftest possible period," Kiriyenko said, the Itar-Tass news

7. Plane already on the runway, engines running
It would be the height of stupidity to launch an attack in Iran while Iraq sinks into chaos and civil war. Makes one wonder if Al-Qaeda is running US foreign policy!

5. Why are the Russians in such a hurry?
The last I heard the Iranians went to Moscow about 2 weeks ago. The Russians sounded fairly dubious - they said something to the effect that, "it doesn't look too promising, but we'll do our best". The Iranians were hesitant. The probably want to placate Washington somewhat, but they don't seem to want to rush into things just because they're being pressured by Bush.

Bush had recently said, "it would be OK with us if they work out a deal with Russia".

But see - you can never tell with Bush & Cheney. They have become like Charles Taylor - they say one thing, and then the next day they say something different.

Now that I think of it - Charles Taylor was more reliable!!!

8. They are in hurry to reach a deal before opposition to Iran solidifies
in the West. If they get a deal now they can head of resolutions, boycotts and possible military attacks.

6. Russia: IAEA Can Still Solve Iran Dispute
Russia's top nuclear official expressed confidence Saturday that the U.N. atomic watchdog agency still could resolve the international standoff over Iran's program, Russian news agencies reported.

Sergei Kiriyenko, head of the state atomic energy agency, said resolving the persistent questions about the intent of Iran's nuclear program ``within the framework of the IAEA is absolutely realistic,'' Russian news agencies reported.

A resolution involving the International Atomic Energy Agency could avert U.N. Security Council sanctions against the Islamic republic.
