Al-Qaida in Iraq's leader killed

http://news.scotsman.com/latest.cfm?id=288252006

Al-Qaida in Iraq's leader killed

Al-Qaida in Iraq's leader in northern Baghdad has been killed in a raid, the US military said.

The military identified Abu Asma, also known as Abu Anas and Akram Mahmud al-Mushhadani, as an explosives expert with close ties to important car bomb manufacturers in Baghdad.

He died in a northern Baghdad raid conducted by coalition forces with the help of Iraqi police, a military statement said.

"Intelligence reports indicated Abu Asma was in possession of, and expected to use, suicide vests against the Iraqi people and security forces," the statement said.

Edited on Fri Feb-24-06 11:26 AM by tatertop
It takes a long time to get the xenophobic
American-Dummy-Bush-Voters to remember a foreign name.
Bush has put a lot of time, money and
effort into building the Zarqawi brand and now it
is sweeping the nation!
Anyway, they figure they have already killed him enough times.

42. Abdul Abulbul Amir
The sons of the prophet were hardy and bold,
And quite unaccustomed to fear,
But the bravest of these was a man, I am told
Named Abdul Abulbul Amir.

This son of the desert, in battle aroused,
Could spit twenty men on his spear.
A terrible creature, both sober and soused
Was Abdul Abulbul Amir.

When they needed a man to encourage the van,
Or to harass the foe from the rear,
Or to storm a redoubt, they had only to shout
For Abdul Abulbul Amir.

31. I guess hoping for the best is no longer something we should do?
Seriously, I'm actually starting to agree with one of the right-wing talking points. Liberals and Democrats are all about negativity these days.

The fact is that this guy was responsible for the deaths of American soldiers and innocent Iraqis. Inasmuch as I can take anything positive out of the death of a human being, I will hope that his death has at least some grain of a chance of peace.

Let's try to remember that there are bad people out there besides the Bush administration occasionally shall we?

There are, of course, bad actors in Iraq other than the Bush Administration, as I tell every conspiracy nut on these boards. But that doesn't change the fact that these laughable supposed benchmarks (so-and-so being killed, etc.), are just that: laughable. They are structurally unrelated to the complexity of the problem. The so-called "leadership" problem can be summed up in a line from Ice-T: "Lock me up, it's genocidal catastrophe...There'll be another one after me..." So every time one comes up, it is designed to do one thing: make you believe that progress has been made, and that all the bad that is going on is on the way to alleviation. That's a fucking lie, period. So every time we respond with "Oh, I hope this alleviates things," we are being suckers, straight up donkey-eared heels, victims (too often willing) of the flim flam. This has nothing to do with positivity or negativity. Hope is a commodity for deception in this context. You want to buy that lie, you want to package it as "positivity" and hope, that's your prerogative. But it's just a perpetuation of the lie, however lovely the package.

...and neither does anyone else. We don't even know if he's really dead, to be honest.

Yes, there are "bad people out there, but here's something for YOU to remember. We invaded Iraq illegally and immorally. Period.

None of this would be happening if the NeoCon Junta hadn't lied about Iraqi WMDs and convinced a majority of Americans that we had to attack Iraq.
