MUMBAI - "Our informal corporate motto," Google declares in its 5,400-word governance Code of Conduct, "is 'Don't be evil.'" Yet lately, as the wildly successful search-engine company has ballooned into the world's biggest information factory, Google has found its "no evil" motto being hurled back in its face, even as it opens shop in sunrise territories such as India.

The company, blasted by the US Congress last month for colluding with the Chinese government to block politically



sensitive search terms on its new Chinese site, also angered the Indian government when its Google Earth satellite picture facility exposed sensitive military installations.

They still have it far worse over there than people in many other countries do.
