7 parties to oppose Bush's India visit ("He is certainly not welcome")
7 parties to oppose Bush's India visit

New Delhi, February 11: Seven political parties, including CPI, CPI(M) and Samajwadi Party, have decided to oppose the coming visit of US President George W Bush to the country.

"Under President Bush, the US continues to occupy Iraq and oppress its people. It threatens Syria and has targeted Iran on the issue of its nuclear programme. It backs the naked oppression of the Palestinian people by Israel. He is certainly not welcome in India," a joint statement of CPI, CPI(M), RSP, AIFB, CPI(ML) Liberation, JD(S) and SP said after a decision in this regard was taken at a meeting here.

"We have constituted a broad-based committee against Bush's visit and decided to organise under its banner a massive peoples march and rally to protest against his visit," it said, calling the American leader an "enemy of sovereign nations". The protest would begin on March two from Ramlila Maidan here, the statement said. (Agencies)

3. Yes, and unfortunately...
...stories about Fearless Leader not being welcome in India are not likely to be picked up and covered in detail by our own media.

I regularly post international protest pics when they become available. They're usually found in, in great numbers, in the photo section of Yahoo News.

The actual story accompanying the photos is another matter. In most cases you will get one or two lines maximum about "protesters gathered, etc etc etc" buried in a much longer story that features Bush's latest fatwa about spreading freedom, freedom on the march, we will not waver, our resolve is firm, etc etc etc.

Remember Bush's fake "I care" hug photo op of the fake weeping Katrina twins?

If it weren't for German TV, we'd never have gotten the "backstory." My guess is that Mr. & Mrs. Middle America STILL think he was kind and caring and fatherly to these two spokesmodels.

6. Too bad we can't revoke his passport when he leaves the US.
Perhaps he could take up residence in the new Iraqi Utopia?

8. I can safely report that Egypt hates him...

I spent most of last year in Cairo and Alexandria. I am typing this from the lovely city of Alexandria, which shares certain traits with New York and Paris: its citizens have a LONG history of being Grade-A snarkers and tend to treat all Wanna-be Great Rulers with disdain and sarcasm.

Did I say a long history? The Conventional Wisdom says Alexander The Great "founded" this city in 332 BC. But the Egyptians who actually built the place were so annoyed by their new rulers that they refused to even use the NAME "Alexandria." They just called it "the building site."

To them, the only good thing about the Macedonian upstarts was that they got rid of the Persians. Other than that, it was a case of "meet the new boss, same as the old boss."

When the hapless, Bush-like Roman emperor Caracalla dropped in for a visit in the Third Century, the Alexandrians jeered him so rudely that he massacred several hundred of them.

Almost every day I talk to Egyptians from all walks of life. Students, working women and men, military personnel, village farmers.

Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, has a good word to say about Smirky or his mAdministration. The more paranoid Egyptians are convinced they are currently #3 on the To-Be-Invaded List, right after Iran and Syria.
