UK Police Find Body in Hunt for Former UN Inspector
LONDON (Reuters) - Police searching for a former U.N. weapons inspector who was dragged into the heart of a dispute over whether Britain's government warped intelligence to justify war in Iraq said on Friday they had found a body.

The family of David Kelly, a soft-spoken microbiologist at the defense ministry who had worked for U.N. inspectors in Iraq reported him missing after he went out for a walk on Thursday with no coat despite a heavy rainstorm.

"The body of a man has been found," Acting Superintendent Dave Purnell told a televised news conference, adding he could not confirm the man's identity.

3. This was all over the BBC news this morning
Edited on Fri Jul-18-03 07:06 AM by spinbaby
And the anchorwoman asked the reporter, "Was he depressed?"

Here's a link to the BBC story:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/politics/3076801.stm

Interesting bits:

The body was found lying on the ground, a police spokeswoman said. She said items had been removed from Dr Kelly's house as they would in any missing person's inquiry.

Earlier this week, Dr Kelly denied being the BBC's main source for a story claiming Downing Street had "sexed up" a dossier about Iraqi weapons of mass destruction.

On edit: added link

4. Doesn't surprise me
The stakes are very high. Blair and Bush and the credibility of botht he UK and US administrations are on the line. A death here or there is nothing to these criminals. They alreadyhave killed thousands, what is one more to coverup the story.

Just like the Wellstone "accident" silenced any democratic dissent so to will this silence anyone with evidence proving that the US or UK trumped up the WMD evidence. Blair and Bush lied again right in front of everyone last night.

If you had evidence now would you rish your life, your families life for these bastards..?? Whe you are really put to it would you cave if a phone call came in and said "your daughter and wife will have an accident if you continue..."?

Dascle and other Democrats recieve death threats routinly.

6. Really sick spin on Fox
They insist on captioning this item as something like "man who leaked intelligence information goes missing", so they can completely ignore the substance of the "leak" by discrediting him as a "mole". The Fox and Friends guys were actually implying that he deserved to be killed because he is a traitor. Those guys just make me sick.

Does junior have the CIA in his back pocket?

Or is everything taken care of by poopie that heads the Carlyle boys or is bunker dick taking care of things?

If true these thugs are surely in control, 'eh?

12. Scotland Yard?
Scotland Yard is the headquarters for the metropolitan police, what have they got to do with this? They won't even be involved with the investigation. I can't see a connection.

21. Yup.
A year and a half ago, the Enron collapse was very early in its unfolding. It had just gone bankrupt the previous month. The first high level exec had indicated a willingness to cooperate and testify. In fact, his lawyers were negotiating the terms of his appearance before Congress, expected the following week. But, he was found shot dead in his car. January 25, 2002.

Yes, there was immediate focus on his stress/depression levels.

AND, immediate blaming of the media.

Mrs. Ken Lay, on the Today Show January 28, 2002, the very next business day after Baxter's death:

…Speaking about John Clifford Baxter, who resigned as vice-chairman of Enron last year and committed suicide last week, Mrs Lay said: "Cliff was a wonderful man. It's a perfect example of how the media can play such havoc and destruction in people's lives. This is the ultimate. This is a loss of life."

Duncan Campbell in Los Angeles <> Tuesday January 29, 2002 <> http://www.guardian.co.uk The Guardian

~~~~~~~~~~
Commentary on the day after an Iraqi weapons expert, Dr. Kelly, turns up dead:
...Robert Jackson, the Conservative MP in whose constituency Dr. Kelly lived, said the "responsibility of the BBC should not go unmentioned" in the case. "The pressure was significantly increased by the fact the BBC refused to make it clear he was not the source," he said.
...Tory MP Richard Ottaway, another committee member, said: "He is not used to the media glare, he is not used to the intense spotlight he has been put under."
So, kiddies, grab those coincidence caps. Apparently, every person who ever experienced sudden media attention commits suicide.
What's that you say? No, it's just those who blow a whistle on the obscenely powerful? Especially right at the BEGINNING of an unraveling? Hmmmm.
Agreed, Jackstraw. An obvious shot across the bow to those others who would step forward.
There was once a British drama series called "A Very British Coup"
A government scientist was killed by the security services because he was telling the truth about (in this case) British nuclear weapons.
Life imitating art?
23. Holy SH*T
I just came home from a nice trip to the countryside and have just read this.
Are they really that dumb to 'suicide' this man in the middle of a row, or are they truly that desperate????????
This has just taken another really ugly turn!
wonder if the head is gone. Otherwise identification would be confirmed of the man...not just a body resembling him.
25. So, is this murder supposed to send the message
"don't mess with Texas and its allies or else..."? It sure seems to have the Bush Crime Family's MO. They were taking pot shots at uncooperative press in Iraq (killing some)...they smear others, arrange for plane or other "accidents" for their enemies. These people will stop at nothing IMO, and this recent murder is quite possibly an attempt to scare any witnesses/informants from coming forward.
No tin foil hats needed with these criminals. They are capable of anything your darkest thoughts can imagine.
