Some good news from Missouri
Forward this mailing

Dramatic Victories

Tonight Missouri voters overwhelmingly took out their frustration with Matt Blunt and the Republicans at the polls. Democrats won two out of three special elections even thought President Bush handily carried all three districts in 2004.

In a stunning victory, Charlie Dake won one of the most conservative districts in rural Southwest Missouri, the 132nd in Lawrence County. To put things in perspective, John Kerry only received 28.5% of the vote in 2004, and Matt Blunt got OVER 71%. This district is right in Matt Blunt's backyard, and it just goes to show that the people that know Matt Blunt the most, voted for the Republicans the least.

Michael Frame also captured victory in the 105th district in Jefferson and Franklin counties. This district has been a bell-weather for Missouri with Bush taking it last year with 52%. We are excited that Michael was able to keep this seat in Democratic hands.

Frustration with Matt Blunt was also prevalent in St. Louis County where Gen Frank received 48% of the vote in an area where Matt Blunt carried with 56%. George Bush also got over 59% of the vote, and only a strong candidate like Gen and the continuing backlash against Republicans in power made this possible. This conservative St. Louis County district is going the way of the rest of Missouri and will be an exciting place come November.

30. Winning anything in Lawrence County is major
That is one conservative county. All of southwestern Missouri is anally conservative, so any victories there are lovely.

5. what's going on in Missouri; from last year ....
GERSTER, Mo. - Gary Ruckel, like most rural Missourians, backed Matt Blunt for governor last fall and voted other Republicans into legislative seats.

Ruckel agreed with Blunt on issues such as gun control and gay marriage, but he was not considering a subject that hit much closer to home: medical care.

So when Blunt proposed cuts in Medicaid last month that could cost Ruckel and his wife, Vivian Ruckel, some services, the couple had second thoughts about backing Republicans.

"It kind of jumps back and kicks you in the teeth, is what it does, because I wasn't planning on this," said Ruckel, who lives about 50 miles north of Springfield. "If they cut back on Medicaid, it's going to crucify us, because we don't make that much."

Ruckel's story is familiar in rural Missouri. More than half of Medicaid recipients in Missouri live outside the Kansas City and the St. Louis areas.

.....

Ruckel and his wife, both 64, said they were among those in need. Ruckel, a former police officer and prison guard, has emphysema, arthritis, a spinal defect and other ailments. His wife is in worse shape, suffering heart and lung ailments, and kidney disease. She tires quickly and cannot do much outside the home. Ruckel is on nine medications; his wife is on 21.

With a combined income of $1,357 a month, mostly from Social Security, they qualify for full payment of medical and pharmacy bills through Medicaid. Both are classified as workers with disabilities because Ruckel works on lawn mowers and his wife does sewing, making about $60 a month combined, he said.

Where is our compassion? Sure, let's tell them "I told you so" in a nice way, in a way that will show them the light if possible, help them to see the truth of the bush agenda. But bear in mind, these people are truly suffering. Unless exceptionally lucky, we have all experienced suffering from bad choices made out of ignorance.

Compassion, people. Compassion.

39. It is hard to muster compassion when you've
felt beaten to a pulp for over 5 years. I am glad to welcome them...I just hope the lesson sticks. It will take us over 25 years to correct Bush's 8 years of destruction. The one thing about this...you can bet this hit Rove's desk and he crapped his pants. They will be working feverishly to paint the DEM's, frame the argument, etc. Would have loved to see the expression on his face.

40. I've been beaten to a pulp, too.
My income, thanks to bush, has been slashed almost in half. No health care, and I do have problems that I feel like, oh, gawd, sometimes I just can't stand it anymore.

But I refuse to sink to the level of those Repubs who claim to be compassionate and then never practice compassion. No matter what happens -- and believe me, I'm not religious -- I do believe that in the end we are judged by how we treat others. I don't actually have to do anything beyond common courtesy to help them, I'll save that for those who tried to stop this trainwreck of an administration. But I can offer them my compassion and try not to throw stones. There but for the grace of God go I. He did indeed make broken vessels. They're called Republicans.

Rove isn't even human, so he doesn't factor into the compassion frame. I truly believe that. He is not human.

17. Yes it is an omen. Lawrence County is totally a rural area
in the heart of the Bible belt. It is also part of Roy Blunt's congressional district. I haven't seen any polling but Roy looks to be in big trouble with this election.

Boy Blunt polls are down the tubes. This is the first time in many years that Republicans controlled the state legislature and people are seeing what the results are: croneyism, breaks for corporations and cuts in the social welfare system.

So he won't be up until 2010 (and if he doesn't retire, chances are he'll be re-elected--he's got quite the following here, don't ask me why). Talent, however, is up this year.

I have been seeing signs go up in Springfield, already. I still think you could put Roy in jail and the dummies around here would vote him in(after all, dumping his wife of so many years for that lobbyist gal didn't seem to matter to the religious fanatics in SW MO.) However, I will keep hope alive.

31. Great news!
True conservatives and Christians will not continue to tolerate the corruption, lies, and deceit that the Repugs have been dishing out. They may be slow to act, but ultimately many do know the difference betweeen right and wrong, and it's apparent they are not going to allow the abuse to continue.

Good job, Missouri! What a great state!!

37. Dem who won also very out-funded.
Dake also overcame what might have been a frustrating disparity in funding.

His campaign raised only $8,550 through Jan. 27, compared with the $20,735 Seifried's campaign raised by Jan. 26, according to records filed with the state.

This state was another one under the radar in another stolen election.

Paper/chad ballot system with "right people" in the "right places" at the "right time".

Kerry won in my opinion.
But a whimpy Kerry chose not to contest.
