Mossad chief: invasion has created a holy war
By Kim Sengupta and Kendah El-Ali

09 November 2003

A former chief of Mossad, the Israeli intelligence service, has accused the United States and Britain of lack of foresight over the Iraq
invasion and warned of even greater violence unless the civic infrastructure is established quickly.

Major General Danny Yatom said the presence of Western forces in Iraq has presented the opportunity for a holy war, or jihad, by Islamists in
a country surrounded by Muslim neighbours.

1. But this is what Bush and his TV Preacher friends want!
Bush wants the Holy War!

The TV Preachers who have his ear keep whispering that HE is GOD'S MAN and ARMAGEDDON IS AT HAND!

President Sock-In-A-Jock believes this shit.

He wants to trigger Armageddon and bring Jesus back.

I wonder what the 5th columnist Neocons will do when Israel gets nuked?

11. They will cream themelves...
According to some armmagedon theories, ie: Jack Van Impe, Israel will be undergoing a nuclear attack when Jesus returns.
So, you see, the nuking of Israel may be in the plans... By the neo cons. Of course they will try to manipulate someone else to do it for them.. I think Russia was the favored one for that, but not so sure now who it is.

5. I agree with the article, but the headline seems a bit misleading.
It implies that a holy war has been decreed, by saying the invasion has "created" a holy war. The article says that an opportunity has been provided (presented the opportunity) for a holy war. This situation is so tense, that I believe language should be used very carefully. I believe we should do our best to keep from making the situation worse than it already is. The article seems valid, but the headline, in my opinion, should try to be very reflective of the content.

7. That is the one it was published with...
I didn't make it up.

The rules say to use the title for the subject.

Perhaps

Former Mossad chief: invasion is fomenting a holy war

would have been a more accurate title.

8. Sorry, ezmojason, I didn't mean to seem accusative.
I know you were following the rules, and that's fine. I'm suggesting that the person who wrote the headline and the editors of the Independent should be more precise.

I favor trying to use a quote in the title with an issue this sensitive.

As for being a "duh" moment, I can agree in general as well. But I'm really criticizing a very specific detail and saying it's worth considering the ramifications of a "holy war" when our government is run by Republicans that represent, like it or not, a very fervently Christian minority.

After being specific with my criticism, if you go back to a "general" perception, then the possible response by the Christian majority that lives in the U.S., especially when egged on by the fomenting Christian minority that's currently empowered with the bully pulpit of the Presidency, could be very detrimental to a campaign that is trying to convince the majority of Americans NOT to vote for Bush* again next year.

So, saying that my suggestion that all of us who want Bush* out should try constantly to be sensitive to the majority, who would probably be very upset by the idea of a serious holy war, is a "duh" moment...well, I hope it is for the majority. My respects for your perceptions.

PS - good word, ezmojason! :)

9. Oh, and, even if you're "dude" is referring to the article's author,
I'm just trying to make a point about our media and sloppyness more than anything. I don't disagree with the Mussad's (sp?) perspective.

10. Uh, I was solely responding to the content of the article
the dude being the Mossad intel "dude"

And from the git-go, a great many people understood Shrub was sparking a jihad by invading Iraq. ...hence the "duh" (stating the obvious)

If you will recall, early on Chucklenuts called it a "crusade"...doesn't take an expert insight to ascertain the implications of the word "crusade"

Now, I do apologise if I gave the impression that I was impugning you in any way...for I was not. I was "duh'ing" the statement by the former Mossad agent.
